I propose an option to "enable desktop effects" that automatically installs and sets up compiz for the user.

Compiz effects enhance the traditional desktop paradigm.
They are useful (eg the zoom function) and have the "wow" factor (eg wobbly windows).

Even though Compiz is fairly popular and useful, it's not very straightforward to setup in Xubuntu especially for a new user.

One caveat is that xfce workspace switcher doesn't work with compiz unless expo and desktop wall is enabled. It's impossible to add or remove workspaces with compiz running.

Solution #1: option to "enable desktop effects"

In xfce desktop settings there could be such an option
which -if selected and the hardware supports it- could automatically do the following:

1. install the packages: compizconfig-settings-manager, compiz-gnome, gnome-themes-standard

2. set up window decorations, movement, placement, resize and grid to be handled by compiz.

3. autostart "sleep 2s; compiz --replace ccp"
