Idea #7081: download software packages using Jigdo or bittorrent

Written by ciro314 the 15 Apr 08 at 22:08. Category: Others. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Synaptic could implement jigdo or bittorrent download instead the tradicional http or ftp. What about a corrupted package? Every single file could be hash checked. This could increase download speeds and decrease server loads.

I don't think BitTorrent is suitable for small files such as updates.

I think it is more suited for large media files such as ISO's and movies...

Eldmannen, Bittorrent is fine for anything. The only reason most people wont use it for 1MB files is because it takes a bit longer to start downloading then HTTP. But it adds redundancy
