Idea #6307: Single login to Ubuntu websites

bug This idea was marked as being in development the 2 June 08.
Written by brm the 3 Apr 08 at 02:36. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Status: In development
Rationale
It appears that one needs to create separate accounts (username and password) for ubuntuforums.org, launchpad.net and brainstorm.ubuntu.com

How difficult would it be to implement a single login?

Update : NOT a duplicate of OpenID idea #9.
Tags: (none)

Developer comments
OpenID will be implemented as the single-sign-on solution for Ubuntu websites.

Selected solution (#1): Auto-generated solution of idea #6307
Written by brm the 3 Apr 08 at 02:36.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #6307 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

They have thought about implementing OpenID I think...

No OpenID please!

But 1 login for all sites on ubuntu would be very good.

What stops you from creating three identical logins at each site the way I do it? I see no real benifit from this

Obviously this idea is not for improving functionality, but making things easier. +1

Better to do via OpenID.. This is a dupe anyway

OpenID, ubuntuID, the word here is SINGLE-SIGN-ON!

carsses wrote on the 9 Apr 08 at 11:38
I add too community sites and launchpad

Btw, how the hell does openid not fix this?

I voted this up... After creating an account and commenting on the idea I was reading at the time I decided to sign up, this is the first thing I searched for. I find it very annoying to have to maintain three accounts for the three things I am likely to use most in Ubuntuland-online.

Single Sign-On PLEASE!

However: It does tno have to be OpenID... I guess that many people (including myslef) would prefer this to be an ubuntu-centric single sign-on. Honestly, I don't know what to make of the OpenID thing just yet and am not ready to commit to it. Sometimes I don't want my identity so easily correlated across the web. When chosing between living under a rock and wearing a tin-foil hat, I'll take mine shiny-side-out please.

I would agree making the same LOGINID and password for the three sites - which i find very comfortable with!

viperhoot wrote on the 24 Sep 08 at 21:37

Does anyone have any idea on the progress of this?

I'm pretty sure you can log into the Wiki using your launchpad account, and the next version of brainstorm allows it too.
