Description
Google could put Ubuntu-style logo on their homepage on Hardy release day :). By the way, they use Ubuntu on their desktop computers.

I don't see this happening for a number of reasons:
- It would be unfair to other distributions
- It's not in the hands of Ubuntu devs
- Every application would begin to bug google to change their logo.

perhaps not an ubuntu logo, but some penguin in Linux day would be nice and this is something ubuntu could ask with some return for itself and for the sake of the Linux community as a whole.

Just the Ubuntu logo replacing one "o" in the Google logo.
Remember, they are not evil.

Yeah, it would be cool if they did that...

Excellent idea! Canonical can talk to Google, they support free and open source software, besides, google doesn't seem to like Microsoft monopoly either...
something like this would be nice:
Google and ubuntu
Google, ubuntu and tux
Google, ubuntu and tux (2)
(sorry for the not very professional editing...)
(and my apologies to Google for messing up with their logo...)

I agree with Endperform on the point of not being fair to other distros. However, a Tux logo would be absolutely amazing for increasing awareness of FOSS.
It would be great if someone who uses Linux and works for Google to bring this up.

This is entirely Google's decision, and they usually do things their way. But who knows, maybe someday...
So what the heck. +1

They didn't do this when Microsoft released Vista or when Fedora 8 came out. I don't mean to sound rude, but distribution fanboyism is harmful. You segregate from the rest of the Linux community. If we really want an increase on the Desktop, we need to think about Linux as a whole.

Maybe it could be something like www.google.com/firefox but instead have www.google.com/ubuntu as the default home page with slight theming. We don't really need to have the welcome page as Firefox's home, it should appear at another time anyway, such as on first login as a separate app.

Google uses several Linux distros for testing, not just Ubuntu. If they did something like this for Ubuntu, they'd have to do it for everyone.

Google uses several browsers for testing, not just Firefox. If they make a custom Firefox themed search page, they'd have to do it for IE, Opera, Safari and countless others.

It would be great to see, but it is also pretty divisive. Maybe something more tactful.

Why would you wish for something that you would consider unfair when done by the competition?
What I am saying is not so far-fetched, at least not in the eyes of Google. Or how do you explain this: http://www.google.com/microsoft
My opinion is clear: Never wake a sleeping tinger.

Maybe if google does not want this, we can ask them to note the linux birthday? not very cool for ubuntu but great for linux. Every year huge ammounts of publicity.
+1 nice idea.

addendum:
It is good for Ubuntu, why? Ask google to change their logo that day in a Linux bithday logo (very good publicity for linux and so for Ubuntu as linux's most pupulair distro.

Well, they have special logos for Christmas, but not for a lot of other holidays. Why? Christmas is most popular, just as Ubuntu is most popular.
Agreed with this idea, but now we should get it done for 8.10
