Idea #5840: 100% Non-English versions of Live-CD

Written by YannUbuntu the 27 Mar 08 at 14:31. Category: Installation. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
The Japanese Team already does it! So we can do it in other languages !

Currently we have to install with English Live-CD and then modify the system language, it's very boring! Please release Live-CD in non-English languages !

It's very important to spread Ubuntu in non-English countries !

This could incure a cost (in term of time, people and maybe pressed CD) which could be better invested elsewhere.

Besides, you can choose the language right from the LiveCD startup screen with F2.

Next, you cannot avoid installing security patchs from the internet, thus you can install complementary translation at the same time.

This is sadly not the case for many languages, as seen in http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/1141/. Many languages doesn't fit on the LiveCD and the user is trapped in a quasi mode between the desired language and English. If they have ab active internet connection during the install the the problem is avoided, but the average user has been taught to under no circumstances have acess to internet before a firewall, an anti virus program etc is installed.

I agree that is isn't an optimal solution to make separate LiveCDs for every language (another option could be to install the missing language-files as soon as internet access is available) but perhaps a step in the right direction.
