Is a project to collect hardware profiles. It would be great if Ubuntu joined, to make a great database of
1) what hardware is in use
2) what hardware is well supported
3) a way for users to indicate if they are willing to test drivers etc. for their hardware.
I aggree with this...
I would like to see stats for users and hardware profiles.
Smolt needs some work too, but at the moment I think it's the most complete solution.
Another option for smolt, was add the information about the instaled packages... so developers could have some stats about their projects.
OpenSuSE recently added support for Smolt.
I was able to send Hardware Profile to Smalt from OpenSUSE 11.1 Beta Live Install within few seconds.
Benefits of Smolt:
- no registration required to submit report
This is very good for first-time Linux users, or people who are willing to report their hardware/successful installs, but
very short on time to come through registration/login/passowrd procedures
- you CAN register / login, and update status of different components later.# smoltSendProfile -a
rate
At a moment you can just re-run Smolt from command line and ask it to generate Admin password for your submitted Smolt profile page.
# smoltSendProfile -a
Password would be at the and of submission info.
You can browse stats by different components/vendors, and easily find PC/notebook model which suits your needs and have good support for modern Linux distribution.
