Idea #30403: Integrate System Monitor System Info into Ubuntu About Computer

Written by cubanresourceful the 5 Dec 12 at 02:04. Category: Usability. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
The About System in Ubuntu is useful, but I feel there is a bit of overlap between that About System screen and the one included in the System Monitor System tab. I feel as if the System Monitor System tab should be removed and that information merged with the one in the About System that Ubuntu has. This will make all system information located in one place, as opposed to located in two places.

Solution #1: Merge the information into About System

Essentially the title, merge it into the About System. There is quite a bit of overlap. Or, at least, add the additional information in System Monitor to the About System page. I think that would make it more cohesive.

Solution #2: Merge the information into System Monitor System tab

I agree with cubanresourceful in that the information should be merged, but I'd merge in the opposite direction. That is, the System Monitor System tab should updated to include not only all of its current information, but also any additional information found only in About System. In so doing, About System could be removed, and all links to About System could be replaced with links to System Monitor (with the System tab displayed by default).

Each one has its uses, so I don't think there is any point in getting rid of one of them.
