Description
I know many of you have concerns when it come to mono applications, but hands down, Banshee is the most interesting and most promising jukebox app in the gtk-land. Moreover, Ubuntu ships with f-spot installed by default, which is a mono app, too.
Banshee has a great iPod support, offers a clean and modern interface, is much more visually appealing than rythmbox, and has a more intuitive workflow.

If you turn off the panes in Rhythmbox, it's UI is no different from Banshee's, except that it works better with podcasts and DAAP.

Banshee is nearing the end of a rewrite. The new version looks amazing, and will have many features (and a level of polish) which Rhythmbox lacks. I'd love to see Banshee as the default media player in Ubuntu, when it's ready.

Voted down like your other post. The use "blah" as standard isn't going to work.
Instead suggest ways to improve the current players

I love Mono....
It would be great to have banshee pre-installed. Mono is going better and mature with passage of time and after a few years it will take the place of C and C++.

It's .NET based. .NET leads to better support, better UI, better debugging, enhancing, etc.
Banshee will win Rhythmbox over time.

Banshee is so much better than Rhythmbox. Its not perfect though and lacks features just as Rhythmbox.

really wanting to vote down comments.
Come on Auzy. If we all thought like you, we'd probably still be on windows wishing they'd make it more like Linux.

The new version of Banshee is really shaping up nicely. If they can get the podcast plugin right, it'll be a great app, easy to use with incredible flexibility. Rhythmbox is being threatened.

I'd still say that there is stil nothing special about banshee, rhythmbox or even amarok actually. Compared to Winamp, they simply aren't that powerful I'm afraid.
I still disagree with this, because the next change should be songbird, which IS looking like a music player that will really change the game, and allow true theming (not just changing colors), and support extensions well

maco: "If you turn off the panes in Rhythmbox, it's UI is no different from Banshee's"
I disagree. There are many important differences, which aren't noticeable on first look. For example, I can simply pause/unpause using Space. In Rhythmbox, it's Control+Space. And so on.
Before you judge or vote this idea down, try to actually use new Banshee for a few days. I was skeptical at first, but after installation (it was 1.0rc1, now final 1.0 is available e.g. at http://getdeb.net/app/Banshee ) I was very impressed.
IMHO Novell did a wonderful job in terms of usability, performance and user experience. It would be great if Ubuntu brought this experience to the users :)

I agree use Banshee for default music player. In 2008 music player must have video and support for various MP3's out of the box. Unfortunately Rhythmbox is not moving much but Banshee is. I would love to see Rhythmbox advance in the future, will it? I personally would prefer Rhythmbox but Banshee will make out of the box experience of Ubuntu better for new users.

I believe the plan (by the Gnome people) is to make Banshee the default player in Gnome. So this may happen in the future anyway.

Please, unless you've tried both applications don't say 'oh, Banshee is crap'.
Banshee 1.0 is way, way better than Rythmbox. Yes, it uses mono, but so what?
By all means, we should keep Rythmbox, but shouldn't Ubuntu show off the best of open source software?
If you think I'm wrong, please please try Banshee 1.0 with some podcasts and video podcasts, it's superb. It really has changed my desktop experience.
