Idea #19766: Imporve the Installation of webapps onto servers

Written by rjwellsted the 11 May 09 at 15:30. Category: Server. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
When installing web-based applications (e.g. Gallery2 or Ampache) the Apache configuration files (in /etc/apache2/conf.d) usually include commented out directives for adding the application as a location (on all vhosts) or as a vhost.

As a result the application may not be accessible until further configuration has been completed.

Solution #1: Make the Installer select the required mode
Written by rjwellsted the 11 May 09 at 15:30.
It would help if the installation script asked which method should be used and the relevant directives uncommented. Additionally, if a vhost installation were chosen, the installation script should detect if bind or other DNS server is installed on the same server and update the relevant DNS zone file with the appropriate CNAME entry if required.
