Idea #17273: Allows us to revert to the old brainstorm UI

Written by DavidNielsen the 14 Jan 09 at 11:31. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Category: Website structure. Status: New
Rationale
The new Brainstorm is confusing and ideas tend to disappear in it's bucket and search design. It would be helpful to be able to revert to the old more useful brainstorm on a per profile basis if not on a site basis.

Solution #1: No solution
Written by DavidNielsen the 14 Jan 09 at 11:31.
Idea requires no solution, see above (this is another thing that needs to die, for some ideas the solution is inherent to the idea like this. Requiring more typing is insane.

The new Brainstorm still needs a lot of work, but it's certainly better than the old one.

The new UI is a big move in the right direction. Focus should be on refining it, not moving back to the old system.

-1, I really thing the problem/solution separation is a big step forward...

The UI has some flaws in it, too bad I am too busy to help out with anything more than pointless comments. I already work on 2-3 projects which take all my time.

bug of new UI: see my comment to http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/24644/ :
"This idea was marked as already implemented the 30 May 10."
which ? there are 3 suggestions!
i did not like when you, brainstorm developers, made bunches of solving ways instead old "ideas" . they now bunched by their "rationale".
in this case, you see that this marking as implemented feature is now buggy.
i have searched now suggestion about that new/old brainstorm and found: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/17273/ "Allows us to revert to the old brainstorm UI" , now i will look it.

i agree with DavidNielsen.
i did not like this immediately since first saw this new brainstorm.
and you, brainstorm developers, have not asked users, whether they want this, have you? you could write at top of all pages about this, and submit your desire as idea to gather user votes and comments. but it has appeared suddenly.
unfortunately somehow i have not seen this idea #17273 earlier, and maybe have not tried to submit such myself, i do not see such in my solutions, maybe they are just not shown as marked as invalid or something like that. some my critics was not approved, and i thought it is censored. and i had gone away from brainstorm and had written in forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1056087 " new brainstorm is going wrong":
(this is probably not correct english.)
normal suggestions or ideas, who knows?, are marked "not idea" , what bad thing is that they think that there should be only "idea"s? very bad is that posts are premoderated now. who decides whether the post is good? does anybody think that that people are such trustable themselves? please see "invalid ideas" section. do not you think that there are ideas that should be voted.
and i liked that ideas was not separated to rationale and solution as in this new version. many people suggested just to add "alternate idea" relation to the old brainstorm but i have never seen ideas to do that such clustering several ideas to one bunch. now it is more like several alternative ideas are competing, not all different ideas.

dinar wrote on the 1 Aug 10 at 06:05
why your new data model is not correct:
ideas can be grouped different ways!
if a idea is submitted as solution to a "rationale", same idea can be solution of other "rationale". also can say, solutions are not ideas.

dinar wrote on the 1 Aug 10 at 06:06
i wanted to say, not equal.

dinar wrote on the 1 Aug 10 at 06:29
and i wanted to say, your current script do not allow idea to be assigned to several rationales.

dinar wrote on the 1 Aug 10 at 07:06
i have found a good demonstration of that solution may be assigned to many "rationales":
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/25289/ "Simple step, into terminal use" there is "Have a button on nautilus to open a terminal in the current directory/folder" solution which has lot of duplicates. and now it cannot be marked as duplicate.

dinar wrote on the 1 Aug 10 at 07:32
one more demonstration: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/25441/ "Users expect they keyboard special keys to work properly " there is "Provide a graphical keyboard layout editor for easy keyboard layout creation" solution which has several duplicates: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/11471/ , http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/21932/ , http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/7863/ .

dinar wrote on the 1 Aug 10 at 10:01
also one disadvantage of new brainstorm: impossible to comment to separate solution, i have remembered this after seeing this: http://www.ideatorrent.org/ideatorrent/idea/28/ "Allow comments on solutions (not just ideas)"

dinar wrote on the 1 Aug 10 at 10:09
i have also written this at http://www.ideatorrent.org/ideatorrent/idea/41/ and at http://www.ideatorrent.org/node/134#comment-168 .

dinar wrote on the 3 Aug 10 at 05:26
(probably i did not submit such idea here, only wrote to forum. i submitted other idea several times with different rewriting, and they were not approved.)
