Idea #14102: Better choice of animals for codename

Written by Eldmannen the 5 Oct 08 at 18:18. Category: Others. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: Deleted
Rationale
Why do we always pick the crap animals for the codenames of our releases?
We have shit like "Breezy Badger", "Hoary Hedgehog", "Warty Warthog", "Gutsy Gibbon", "Hardy Heron", and "Intrepid Ibex".
These are weak shit animals that cant even hunt anything, they get preyed on by the big animals.

This while Mac OS X gets to have all the cool animals, they have Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Tiger, Panther, Leopard, etc. All big, strong and dangerous animals that can roar!

We should have the badass animals. The king of the jungle, the top of the food-chain!

Stop picking weak names like badger, hedgehog, rabbit, butterfly, etc.
We should have badass names like "Gruesome Godzilla", "Terrifying Tyrannosaurus", "Vicious Velociraptor", "Tireless Tigershark", "Fearless Falcon", "Crushing Crocodile", etc.

-1 because

a) I like the current names
b) I don't think we should discriminate against herbivores

bubba_169 wrote on the 5 Oct 08 at 19:57
Language timothy lol

Names are getting wierder agreed but they do relate to the targets on release ie Ibex is a mountain goat - not the tethered domesticated animal we usualy know as the goat - network connections being the main focus.

Jaunty Jackalope +1 must be definitely named Killer

I like most of names, except Jaunty Jackalope.
I think is a good idea to put better names of course.
Just for the effect it may cause on marketing.
I does not need to be a strong animal, only one people like or get identified with.

No, I want something like "Terrible Tyrannosaur"!

"We" do not name Ubuntu. SABDFL does that and he does a great job at that. Using unique names is a brilliant way to stand out on search engines, etc.

Eldmannen, you're just trying to see how far negative you can get an idea voted, aren't you? :)

nachomania wrote on the 6 Oct 08 at 17:11
Literal ROFL. Supposed to get more refined with each release. Ibexs are tough...

@Eldmannen - you sir should acquire a sense of humour.

For Ubuntu 9.10 I suggest Killer Kobra.

Deleted, please avoid the use of vulgar words in your ideas descriptions. While your idea might be great, it won't give any result if your description is turned into a criticism or simply a attack against ubuntu.

Criticism is good if you speak about which solution you want to bring in a way that will invite people to think and collaborate around your idea.
