Description
TrueCrypt already has a package for Ubuntu, so I don't see the reason why it isn't in synaptic or Add/Remove program.

Instead of using an already existing widely-used free open source license such as GPL, BSD, Apache, MPL, etc TrueCrypt uses their own vanity license.

They should use a real open source license instead of use their own crappy vanity license.

Vanity license is bad because it makes it difficult to know what is free open source software and not, and it makes it difficult to use in certain environments since you have read the license and agree to the terms, if it was an established license, you already read the license and know the terms.

The TrueCrypt License is not approved by the FSF or OSI, so until they use a real free open source software license they can go fuck themselves.

We cant let software with vanity licenses into the repository. Then we would need to consult lawyers for every package with vanity licenses to be sure that we're allowed to redistribute it.

The Mozilla Public License (MPL) would suite them perfectly. But no, they want their own vanity license, just so they can be like "look at us, we have an own license lols".

FSF and OSI have tons of certified open source license from which they can pick, I am sure there are many which provides them the same what they want. They just want their own license which complicates things for everyone else, so they can go fuck themselves.

I fail to see anything in TrueCrypt's license that prohibits distribution in Ubuntu's repositories.

Since Ubuntu would not have to modify and redistribute the source code of truecrypt, i see no problem with the license.

@eldmannen: Including truecrypt would be a favor not to truecrypt programmers but to owners of truecrypt volumes who want to use Ubuntu.
What truecrypt programmers should or shouldn't do is off-topic here anyway.

Well, then it would have to got into the restricted non-free repository along with Adobe Flash, WMV codecs and the like.
