New Ubuntu users try to use EXEs in Ubuntu to no avail
Written by j814wong the 17 Aug 11 at 19:00. Not an idea
I've introduced some new users to Ubuntu. I warn them that they can't install Windows only stuff without something like WINE. Many times, they would contact me asking about installing Windows stuff like EXEs and I would reply in the same way every time.\

Solution #1: Warning about installing Windows only stuff
Written by j814wong the 17 Aug 11 at 19:00.
When a user tries to install a file like an EXE, they should be prompted that they are installing a Windows only file that cannot be run with out WINE or a similiar program.
It could go as follows:

"Warning:You are trying to install a Windows only file that is incompatible with Linux."

"Warning:You are trying to install a Windows only file that is incompatible with Linux. Do you wish to run this file with WINE to attempt runnign this file?"

"Warning:You are trying to install a Windows only file that is incompatible with Linux. Do you wish to install WINE to attempt to run this file?"

I can imagine how this would help a lot.

Install Wine on every Ubuntu standard installation so .exe files can be opened out of the box
