Solution #1: Help to clarify libbdplus.
Written by ubuntosaure the 10 Nov 10 at 13:14.
libbdplus part of the right to interoperability, as described by the French laws.
So that videolan can go out libbdplus it is thus necessary to support the project and so that canonical and the community come to supporting libbdplus.

VLC should get the new notification icon treatmeant
Written by motang the 10 Apr 10 at 13:41. New
Lately since the release of VLC 1.0 it puts an icon in top righ corner or in the notification are, where basic controls such as play, skip forward and backward, pause, etc. are accessible. With the new notification icons in Ubuntu 10.04 I think VLC can use some love.

VLC Needs Saveable Equalizer Presets
Written by ThatBum the 12 Mar 10 at 05:35. New
VLC has equalizer presents, sure. But if you make a custom equalizer setting and exit the program, and start it again, the setting is lost. This is annoying to people who have speakers that needs a certain universal equalization to sound their best. I know there's system-wide equalizers out there that have savable presets, but I still would like to see this feature in VLC.

Solution #1: Make Subset Menu in Preset Dropdown in Adjustments and Effects
Written by ThatBum the 12 Mar 10 at 05:35.
I was thinking a Winamp-style approach to it. Have a button to save a preset somewhere in the Audio Effects tab in Adjustments and Effects. This opens a text field for naming the preset. The newly minted present could be in something like Preset -> Saved Presets -> "Name Here".

Deleting presets would either require a separate preset manager of some sort, or a right click menu to delete what was selected in Preset -> Saved Preset. This, as I understand, would requiring a restructuring of the dropdown UI in VLC, because dropdowns regard a right click as the same input as a left clock.

I suppose to modify a preset, you just load one, do the modification, and save it under the same name, after a confirmation.

Solution #1: Community to add radio station links
Written by heuteland the 21 May 09 at 09:08.
Player should enable people to add radio stations and new stations are made available to all people having the player after software has checked that the stream works.Should stream cease to exist e.g. not played any music for 10 days in a row, the link is removed from player.

The desktop app. should be simple and look similar to a radio
with skins to allow personalisation. player independent, but out of box linked to ubuntu prefered player.

Avoid black bars around movies
Written by geoff07 the 21 Dec 10 at 08:20. New
When resizing a movie, it is almost impossible to maintain the correct aspect ratio by dragging the corner. Black bars are therefore generated. This is a waste of space and poor practice given the ability of the computer to prevent this.

Solution #1: Automatically resize to content aspect ratio
Written by geoff07 the 21 Dec 10 at 08:20.
When resizing by dragging the corner, the window should maintain the aspect ratio of the content, thus avoiding the need for black bars. Maintaining aspect ratio is a common function of image viewers and should be simple for movie players.

Solution #2: Only force aspect ratio matching while holding shift/alt/ctrl/whatever
Written by ean5533 the 22 Dec 10 at 13:09.
When it comes to aesthetic things like this, it's generally a bad idea to force the user to do what the OS thinks is best. Instead of ALWAYS forcing the program to maintain aspect ratio, how about only maintaining that ratio if the user holds down a key (say, shift) while resizing? Then you have the ability to maintain that ratio without taking away any options from the user.

From Geoff07:
my comment is to ask when a user would ever want a movie with the wrong aspect ratio and wasted space around it? The best things to do surely are a) make all options user settable as a default, so they can have anything available, and b) present images that fit windows initially and let the user change it. I can't imagine that any would for normal viewing.

Solution #3: Alt + mwheel = window zoom
Written by hawthornso23 the 17 Jan 11 at 04:40.
Ctrl + mwheel currently zooms content in firefox and some other applications. Alt + mwheel is not assigned an action by default. It could be assigned to resize the application window while maintaining aspect ratio (window zoom) which would be quite consistent with the ctrl + mwheel action and very intuitive.

This would apply not just to video players but all windowed applications. It could be implemented in addition to other solutions. It would also give the advantage of allowing quick and easy window size changing for any selected window without having to locate/click/drag corners or edges.

Packages and dependencies
Written by hariks0 the 19 Oct 08 at 16:13. New
If I am not having internet connection and the only source of Ubuntu packages is a windows PC with internet, I will have to download the packages and dependencies manually to a pen drive and install it later in my PC.My idea is, if there is a reference link for details of any program packages and dependencies that we propose to download manually for installtion in the installed vertion of Ubuntu in Package manager Help menu -> home page / Discription of the package etc, it will be very useful.

Presently I found a link for the same but unluckily it has reference of only i386 versions of Ubuntu not amd64 etc. The address is http://labs.fajran.web.id/p/apt-web/.

A similar site for other versions may be maintained by Ubuntu.

Create a REPEAT icon/button for VLC toolbar (not just for playlist entries)
Written by nickr the 24 Dec 10 at 23:13. New
When watching a movie or listening to a song that is not in the playlist, I'd like to be able to have an icon/button that will toggle the REPEAT function on and off.

Solution #1: Create a REPEAT icon/button for VLC toolbar
Written by nickr the 24 Dec 10 at 23:13.
When playing videos and songs, a REPEAT icon/button in the toolbar would allow user to quickly toggle the REPEAT song/video function on and off without having to open the Preferences menu and hunt for the switch. If the repeat button is selected, leave it selected until the user unselects it. This way the user can control the repeat functioning without having to go into the menu system and try to find it (which takes a lot of time). Also, the user can expect the repeat button to be selected if it was on when VLC was closed.

The Windows version of VLC has a REPEAT icon/button, how come the Ubuntu/linux version doesn't?

Support For Amazon Video on Demand Videos
Written by dcornibe the 5 May 09 at 18:11. New
What else can I say? It would be one less thing I would need Windows for! I have a few downloaded Amazon VOD movies on my Windows machine. (I am in the process of considering Ubuntu since Windows sucks and I can't afford a Mac.)

The window size is more relevant to a user than the number of pixels
Written by geoff07 the 21 Dec 10 at 08:14. New
When opening a movie, the normal behaviour is to open the window to fit the pixel size of the data stream. If the movie is low resolution the user will most likely resize it to a more useful window. Likewise if it is large it may perhaps need to be reduced.

The window size is key to the user experience, not the resolution. The resolution simply determines the quality of the image.

Constantly resizing player windows is a pain if working on or viewing a number of clips

Solution #1: Open clips to a default window size rather than the pixel size
Written by geoff07 the 21 Dec 10 at 08:14.
On very first use, the player should open the clip to the pixel size. If that is then resized by the user, then all subsequent opens of that or other clips should default to the window size set by the user. Aspect ratios would be taken into account by altering the width of the window, keeping the height as set by the user. This way the window size would more closely match the user preference.
