Desktop enhance needed in Ubuntu.

Although Ubuntu (Canonical) is the world’s favourite free operating system, with more than 20 million people preferring it to commercial alternatives, it could be the first choice for more than 200 million (10x more)...

The thing is that since Windows 3.1 (or 95) desktops are always the same poor functional thing. And in my opinion this is on purpose to put people around the world sad and weak, day after day.

Ubuntu with Unity is much better now with 13.04, but, it still is far for being good, cause, bluetooth does not work with fresh installation, like a simple sending or receiving file from mobile phone, even if user tries and fails, giving some error, USB fails if a printer and a easycap is plugged in same hub, causing easycap to stop responding, etc., and so on...

Solution #1: Easier links in desktop enhancement.
Written by jmlm_1970 the 14 Jun 13 at 18:48.
The one enhancement that I want to offer to Canonical is:
1. every thing in the system could be used to generate a desktop link, like, the test speakers in the sound settings, which opens a window to click all the speakers individually. If this was available to all windows forms that can be accessed by user, than Ubuntu would have another ace in comparison with other popular OSes like Microsoft Windows.

2. In fact is the desktop that with all designs improvement still lacks functionality on daily use, cause is fine to have all visual tweaks on, if I have a guest at home, and want to impress with my Ubuntu laptop, but if I am alone what I need is a desktop, fast, and clean, and using low resources, to improve tasks performance... So what about, also desktops preset at a switch of a button (or two is ok too)!

Ubuntu rules.

Better way to quick display images is desirable

At the moment the fastest way to see image files in full resolution is launching the image viewer. This can be bothersome, mostly when you have to review many images in different folders or in slower computers.
On the other hand even old computers are powerful enough to display images almost instantly, so a better solution should be available.

Solution #1: Instant view on mouse hoover
Written by donpirracas the 22 May 13 at 23:41.
When the mouse hoovers the icon or thumbnail, after a set number of miliseconds, the image is displayed in full resolution (or as big as the screen allows). When the mouse is moved away the image dissapears. This way many images can be checked quickly and with little resources.
The advantages of this system are:

* Does not interfere: all the current visualization options remain unchanged. Double click launches the image viewer as usual. Can be disabled at anytime.
* Easy to implement: probably the thumbnail rendering engine could be used (I guess...) so little extra code is needed.
* Light in resources: no data is written into the hard drive, which can be a lot of data when storing large image libraries as big thumbnails. Ideal for removable or network drives.
* Extra information could be displayed over the image (image size, file size, etc). On non image files, a box with information could be also displayed.
* Could be adapted for text/pdf files as well.

There was a similar function for sound files in older gnome versions but it was slow, so I don't think it should be used for audio/video.

It work the same way as the firefox addon "Thumbnail Zoom Plus" or "Hover Zoom" for chrome, they can give you an idea of how it works.

The file browser (open/save) is horrible

When I want to open or save a file I'd like a more comfortable dialog. With the actual one I cannot right click the file or the folder to open it, I can only select it and the UI isn't similar at all to Nautilus.

As almost all the android,Symbian and windows users are using buttons to navigate back,home,multitasking...it is difficult for users to switch to gesture control quickly.hence i suggest to provide home, back and option button at the bottom for user comfort until user get used to gestures.please consider this suggestion.

Better and cleaner integration with Wine

The problem is that:

It's difficult to create "bottles" in Wine, and it's difficult to replicate it.

The bottles are needed because we need isolated environments, to avoid that an app can break another one (and because every "windows" application needs a very specific configuration...).

Make an application that makes easy to create bottles.

Every application should be installed in its isolated bottle, but this bottle (before the installation) can be a copy of a base bottle.

It should be (at least) a "base bottle" that must be replicable. It's interesting that the user can create bottles to reuse it when tryes to install a win32 app.

Index the existing files for the Dash

After a fresh install of Ubuntu, until it has been accessed once, the existing files does not appear in the Dash.

Solution #1: Index manually the existing files after a fresh install or on demand
Written by vmalep the 11 May 13 at 22:02.
In the system settings, there should be a wizard (launched automatically after a fresh install) that invite the user to select the folder to scan (by default, the Home folder only) in order to fill in the index that will use the Dash (or the Lense or the Scope, honestly, I still don't have understood the difference) to list the files in its result.
