Previous version of file is lost when saving new version
Written by Rafaelement the 3 Feb 13 at 13:44. Related project: Nautilus. Already implemented
When the "Save" option is chosen in the HUD or the menu, the opened file is saved over the previous version. By default it is not possible to retain any older version. But it could be that older versions of the file contained valuable work or were in a better state.
Most programs contain "Undo/Redo" functionality, but it is often limited to the last save and lost when the program is closed.

Solution #1: Use tags(as timestamps) and compressed files + a GUI to provide version mgmt
Written by Rafaelement the 3 Feb 13 at 13:44.
Dropbox currently saves a file history, but it dates back only a limited amount of time(in the free version).
On Ubuntu, version control could be implemented by tagging a new file("example.txt" with its creation date. The new file is put in a compressed file("example.txt.version" but the file manager has to handle it as if it was of the original filetype(by ignoring ".version"; which really could just be a renamed .zip or similar).
Everytime a user saves a new file with the same name to the same location, it is timestamped and added to the ".version" file.
A GUI could make the files visible by presenting previews, sorting by saving date or similar.

Unity Dash has made the "workspace" pointless.
Written by Rafaelement the 22 Sep 12 at 23:06. Related project: Unity. New
The Unity Dash serves as a viewer for all kinds of content
Search is also possible
The Launcher provides shortcuts to the most used programs

Those are the tasks traditionally happening on the "desktop" or "Workspace". With the Unity Dash and Launcher doing the job actually better(searchability, sorting after content type), the actual desktop is not necessary anymore.

Right now, there is the desktop, and if you want the Dash, you have to click. The Dash has the focus, but can lose it.

Solution #1: Unity Dash-only Desktop
Written by Rafaelement the 22 Sep 12 at 23:06.
The Unity Dash should be fullscreen only, brought to the foreground by the Win-key or a mouse click. Swiping actions could change between views.

The Unity Dash search bars are fragmented; There are too many.
Written by Rafaelement the 22 Sep 12 at 23:22. Related project: Unity. Not an idea
Win Key: Search for files and programs
Alt Key: HUD, program and global commands
ALT+F2: Program launcher, exact match

This segmentation is not necessary

Solution #1: Unified Search Bar
Written by Rafaelement the 22 Sep 12 at 23:22.
One search bar which looks for programs/files, commands. Could simply be the main Dash search bar.
Alt+F2 becomes unneccessary, functionality already replaced by current Unity Desktop
