Global Option menu addition
Written by kingnick42 the 4 Dec 12 at 02:57. New
The fact that the minimise, maximise, and close buttons move position in accordance with the size of the active window, while the other option remain in the global options menu, is annoying.

Solution #1: Move the minimize, maximise, and close buttons
Written by kingnick42 the 4 Dec 12 at 02:57.
I think that the maximise, minimise, and close buttons should me made additions to the global options menu. So, no matter how large the active window, users will always find these three options in the same place (top left corner), which is also where they find the other program options.

Solution #2: Move the menu bar to the window itself when not maximized
Written by northrup the 12 Dec 12 at 21:55.
Migrating the toolbar to the window when not maximized makes the most sense, as that's were users - especially those accustomed to Windows or other Linux distributions - expect things like "File", "Edit", "Help", etc. These can then move to the top - along with the min/max/close buttons - when the window is maximized.

Solution #1: Add a bug-hunting Indicator for alphas/betas
Written by AdlerHorst the 17 Oct 12 at 09:14.
Sometimes I wish to add some Printscreens or wish to add a bug request for s pecific Programm.

Add a bughunting indicator.

Example Indicator-menu:

- Create Bugreport // click with mouse on a Program //
- Search Bugs //click with mous on a Program to see its bugs //
- Collected Bugs on this machine
- [n] news on watched Bugs on Launchpad
- translation //click with mouse on a Program for searching Translations on Launchpad//
German: [n] not translated
German: [n] to review
- Printscreens // e.g.: http://youtu.be/0Z3wyZRKgAg?t=19s
□ ...and add some Text/Arrows/Mark to it after recording.
□ ...and Create a Bugreport
□ ...record a desktop movie instead a Printscreen
□ ...from a Terminal on tty [n] and collect all IO in a textfile

Web browsers – like the default for Ubuntu: Firefox – are currently using an extra windows to manage downloads.

Solution #1: Manage downloads in the dash
Written by rbn the 28 Feb 13 at 15:51.
Instead of using an extra small window for managing your downloads, the dash could be used for it:

→The user clicks on a file in his webbrowser

→Is asked, if he want to download or to open the file

→The dash opens, the progress of the currently active download is shown, buttons to stop or to cancel would be there, too

→The user could easily continue working while the dash is hidden, if he would check the progress, he could just press SUPER and the dash would open, showing the status of the download

Open upper panel menus only by click, to avoid accidental logout
Written by linuxlisa the 2 May 12 at 06:58. New
In the far right upper corner, there's the Ubuntu icon under which access to 'System Settings' etc can be found. When trying to select 'System Settings', it often happens that users accidentally hit 'Switch User Account' from the neighboring user accounts menu.

Reason:

The user accounts menu icon is directly next to the Ubuntu settings icon. And because the space these icons take up on the panel is so small, but the menu itself is much wider, it easily happens that users accidentally open the menu that is next to the left when trying to hit the first menu entry of the menu that was originally opened. This is because the menu entries start on the left side, of course. Users aim for these entries by making a diagonal move.

So, when making this diagonal move, they often accidentally hover over the neighboring user accounts menu if they don't move their mouse strictly vertical. This is very unintuitive and in the course of usage a thing users don't think of. And because this happens quickly and they expect to hit the desired menu entry, they also make a mouse-click right away. But then they end up hovering over the user account menu, thus opening it and accidentally clicking 'Switch User Account' (and effectively logging out *dang*).

This is very undesirable and should be fixed.

Solution #1: Add a delay for opening a panel menu by hovering
Written by linuxlisa the 2 May 12 at 06:58.
In order to avoid accidentally opening the neighboring panel menus, at least a hover delay should be added. The diagonal move described in the problem is a fast move. So it would probably be enough to add a slight delay for opening a menu when hovering over it.

Of course, panel menus should still open immediately when clicking them. But when hovering, there should be a delay of 0.5 seconds.

Solution #2: Open panel menus by click only
Written by linuxlisa the 3 May 12 at 10:28.
An even better solution would be to disable the possibility to open panel menus by hovering. Panel menus should only open when clicking them. This avoids the above problem completely and has no drawback in usability.

Ubuntu allows user to see all running apps windows using 'Super key+W' shortcut. But this feature must be accessible through mouse also.

One can give 'show all apps' as an additional feature for show desktop icon such that when we click on the show desktop icon while on the desktop, it shows all running apps windows in the spread view.

No app indicator template for Quickly
Written by lauterzsolti the 23 May 12 at 08:42. New
The Quickly development tool has a few nice templates to start a new graphical or cli app or unity lens project easily (and quickly) but it still doesn't have a template for application indicators.

Make a dash hotkey for searching folders first.
Written by kswenson the 30 Nov 12 at 15:09. New
Right now, -SUPER-f opens dash to search for files.
But if you want to open a folder, you must do the following:
1. -SUPER-f
2. type name
3. press the down arrow 4 times
4. -ENTER-

Step 3 is very cumbersome since I'm opening files often.

Solution #1: use -SUPER--SHIFT-f to search folders

Common application icons are occupying an extra space in the Unity panel
Written by miguelbrain the 26 Nov 12 at 18:43. New
Common application icons are occupying an extra space in the Unity panel. For example, LibreOffice consists of four icons more one generic and all these should be grouped. Another example are the icons of the drives, should be grouped.

Solution #1: Pull-Out Notification Center
Written by mbell550 the 11 Oct 12 at 04:49.
What about a pull-out notification center for ubuntu? It could be neatly hidden away on the side when you are not using it and would not get in the way. It could display things such as weather, status updates, facebook posts, twitter, rss feeds, etc... It woulld be like what Apple has for Mountain Lion and ios. I am not proposing that you copy Apple, but why not expand and add more to that idea?

Solution #2: indicator icon for all notifications
Written by mbell550 the 17 Oct 12 at 02:11.
What about an indicator icon like what is there for the time and date.
Instead of having several icons on the indicator bar, why not have a single drop-down menu that can be edited to have facebook, weather, etc...

Or a way to arange the indicators in the way that the user wants.

Solution #3: Notificatoins in the dash
Written by pemibo the 22 Oct 12 at 19:20.
Maybe a category in the home section of the Unity-Dash that shows the last notifiations. Or an extra notification lens.
