Make media library management easier
Written by antaveiv the 16 Dec 09 at 09:33. New
There are directories in home for various media content: Music, Pictures, Videos etc. Transmission could do torrent sorting automatically

Solution #1: Auto-detect torrent contents
Written by antaveiv the 16 Dec 09 at 09:33.
For example, when audio files dominate the torrent, select Music directory as default download target. This feature should be configurable.
Together with deselected "Display options dialog" it should be possible to download music from e.g. Jamendo store to the user's Music directory with fewer steps.

Solution #2: Select destination and file/directory name at initialization
Written by hasse the 4 Jun 10 at 11:49.
rTorrent does this already, in that each monitored torrent directory has a corresponding destination directory.
i.e. Torrent files placed in
torrentwatch/movies will be moved to /media/download/movies
torrentwatch/music will be moved to /media/download/music
etc as defined in the rtorrent configuration file.

Unfinished files are placed in a separate directory until completion, and rtorrent moves the file to the correct directory for seeding when download is complete.

This is currently the only reason why I'm still using rtorrent instead of Transmission.

Transmission should have a option to pause torrents when on battery power
Written by Teester the 6 Nov 09 at 00:59. New
Uploading and downloading torrents results in disk, CPU and network activity, which will tend to increase the speed at which a battery drains if a laptop is on battery power. When Transmission is idle, it uses less resources than when it is actively uploading and downloading, prolonging battery life.

Solution #1: Add a "Pause torrents when on battery power" option to Transmission preferences.
Written by Teester the 6 Nov 09 at 00:59.
Add a checkbox to Transmission Preferences under the torrents tab labelled "Pause torrents when on battery power". When checked, all torrents would be paused when the computer is on battery power, and resumed when the computer is plugged back in. The checkbox should only be present when a battery is detected (so that an irrelevant checkbox is not presented to desktop users)

Solution #2: Add a "Pause torrents when on battery power" option to Power Management.
Written by Teester the 6 Nov 09 at 01:02.
Add a checkbox to Power Management under the On Battery Power tab labelled "Pause torrents when on battery power". When checked, all torrents from any active bittorrent program would be paused when the computer is on battery power, and resumed when the computer is plugged back in.

Solution #3: Don't add extra options
Written by Teester the 8 Nov 09 at 12:52.
Users should manually quit out of Transmission when using their computer on battery power if they wish to prolong battery life.

Transmission should support bandwidth throttling and torrent scheduling
Written by amar.kamat the 12 Nov 08 at 20:47. New
Transmission should support bandwidth throttling as it helps manage multiple applications that are bandwidth hungry. Also it would be nice if transmission starts supporting priorities where I can specify a priority level for each torrent and it schedules torrents based on the priority. This will save us from manually scheduling (pausing+start). One benefit will be that transmission might pick up a torrent of lower priority if all high ones are unavailable and hence something or the other is downloaded.

Solution #2: add label/category driven bandwidth scheduling
Written by aaronp the 30 May 10 at 08:05.
Allow torrents to be labelled and/or categorised and have bandwidth restriction schedules apply differently to each label or category.
This could be as simple as have a 'peak' and 'off peak' schedules in place and then being able to categorise each torrent as either 'peak', 'off-peak' or 'unrestricted'. During peak time when adding or changing a torrent to 'off peak' it was stay paused or restricted. When off-peak time comes around, any 'off peak' torrents would start and download according to the relevant bandwidth restriction until the end of off-peak time at which point they pause again.
Conversely, adding an item with 'peak' category would work the same but during peak time and not off-peak time.
Furthermore, the unrestricted category would be treated as 'peak' in peak time and 'off peak' in off peak time.

This is the simple implementation, a further step would be to allow custom labels set up by the user (i.e. don't restrict just to peak and off peak) and for each label, a custom bandwidth schedule can be set.

Have Transmission use emblems on folders to show you the state of a download
Written by Aphoxema the 8 Nov 08 at 15:48. New
It would be very helpful to, well... myself and I'm sure other people if Transmission would set emblems on folders or files based on what they're doing. It could set one emblem when the download starts and one when it's completed so you know when it's safe to relocate the folder or file without having to go back and forth from Transmission.

The most useful thing about this is it doesn't depend on Transmission to be running to keep you informed on the status of the file, you wouldn't have to open transmission to see if that file you just started downloading and forgot about was done or not.

Bittorent Client & a good download manager should be together
Written by fazillatheef the 9 Jul 08 at 11:41. New
Currently there is bittorent client(Transmission) by default in hardy ...

but it would be also good to include a download manager with it.The following features should be included

*it should be included with Transmission gui itself,no need for another program. It gives a feeling for the user that the program is used for downloading purposes.

*Download file in parts. This is used by download accelerators.I know that D4x is there. But its too flashy with many icons and the UI looks really bad.It needs to be standardized like Transmission .And I have experienced lot of problems(confusion) with it.

*Integeration with firefox using some plugin (this should be by default). So a popup comes up asking whether it should be downloaded by the download manager or firefox itself

*Settings for Automatic hang up and shutdown after downloads are finished.some thing like a check box.(make it simple).

Solution #2: Transmission bittorrent client extension.
Written by cracken226 the 7 May 09 at 19:14.
Preferred client in all Ubuntu systems should have more options, be pluginable, but still light, powerfull as Ktorrent. All Ktorrent like advanced options, plus new features, options, like hide to tray by default, auto updater with options of time limit of available peers, advanced update torrent finder from internet, looking for more trackers ... Many options, like in another idea underneath, migration function, users community and favorite torrent and download list. Let it be most by community used download manager for everything. Online and Live activities, logging, user interaction ...

Solution #3: One extension: Use Transmission for all transmissions
Written by androdebian the 8 May 09 at 18:24.
Transmission have a great interface only for download/upload bittorrents. The same interface can be used for direct downloads (from firefox, ftp, ssh...), move/copy local files, p2p downloads...

In resume, we can use Transmission to unify all tasks referents to move information, including burning CD/DVD...

Solution #4: Transmission Ktorrent indicator and implementator.
Written by cracken226 the 22 May 09 at 16:00.
Using Transmission as prefered torrent application is easy. But many users are installing Ktorrent for Gnome environment as well. We should be able to link Transmission to Ktorrent engine, use it's options for better downloading. In menu, there should be an link to transfer settings to Ktorrent and vice versa, so transfering files and settings to Ktorrent and continue downloading files in another software vice versa would be easy. By transfering torrent, files and settings, updating preferences, first migrated software should be automatically closed.

This project is not linked to/and/or any other projects at this date. Check again later for new links. Thank You for making our Ubuntu better.

Solution #5: Transmission and Jigdo, OverNet and others.
Written by cracken226 the 25 May 09 at 10:51.
Number 2 is right. Light download manager should do more, than others and still be light, but powerfull. Somehow, we are forgetting other download technologies, like Jigdo, Overnet. Always but have to install them to use in the main system. We should implement them too. Linux was always good, because, what i could not find in Windows, that was defenitively in linux. Good point. Somehow we are forgeting older technologies. Implement all other download techniques into Transmission, and we will be number one. Promise. Why should use one milion programs to download just one file, when Transmission is already in the system?

This project idea is not linked to/and/or any other projects ideas created by me at this date. Please, vote. Check again later for new updated links. Thank You for making our Ubuntu better. Bohuslav Jonathan Tóth.

Transmission's progress not obvious
Written by blinry the 24 Jun 09 at 13:53. New
I would like to check the progress of my torrent's progress more easily.

As for now, I have to open Transmission's main window to do that.

Solution #1: Use the tray icon
Written by blinry the 24 Jun 09 at 13:53.
When you move mouse over Transmission's tray icon, instead of download speeds, the info window could show the progress of all running downloads.

Solution #2: Introduce a global progress display
Written by blinry the 24 Jun 09 at 13:57.
I'm dreaming of a universal "progress window" that combines the downloads of Transmission, Firefox, Aptitude, the progress of file actions, the burning progress of CD's and others.

This is unrealistic at the moment, as all the developers of those applications and DE's had to work together, but eventually it could become a (Freedesktop?) standard.

It would definitely be nice to have.

Transmission 'Add to blocklist' option
Written by bluebell392 the 6 Dec 08 at 22:01. New
I think that there should be an option for adding peers to the blacklist. For example: User A wants to download a large torrent, say Fedora ( I'm not playing favorites, OK? I just want to explain this.) However, the number of leechers is lower than seeders, and as a result the download speed is slower. If User A could block the peers, however, he would be able to download faster.

Bandwidth Limits > Upload > Unlimited
5,
10,
20,
40,
60,
80,
Other..

It would allow the user to control the bandwidth without having to open Transmission window, preferences dialog, network tab, ...

Teach Transmission to properly choose default save location
Written by ilembitov the 12 Sep 08 at 22:17. New
The idea here is that Transmission should automatically choose and offer a save location accordingly to the file type. E.g., .mp3/ogg/flac to "Music", avi/wmv/theora to "Video", etc.
