Closed Caption Support

I'm hard of hearing, and closed caption support should either be added to totem or a dvd player that has closed caption support should become the default dvd player in ubuntu.
Right now, I've heard that vlc media player 0.9 will provide support for closed captioning. No other player that I can find supports CC or will support it in ubuntu.
Closed captioning is not the same as subtitles. Some dvds will have CC, but no subtitles for it.
Windows Media Center supports captioning, and so should the ubuntu media players.
Sincerely,
Susanna777
Edit: I have recently discovered the SMPlayer supports displaying captions, however it reads the captions data and displays it like subtitles. It makes DVDs with only CC accessible, however, I prefer the black box for better contrast and visibility.

Enable Totem to use VLC and Mplayer binaries from restricted repos

The point here, is that Totem can use xine engine, which doesn't support all DVDs. Mplayer can support some other DVDs, but not all of them. And the same with VLC. The problem here is that there is no single standart for DVDs - different menus, etc. This is the same even with proprietary software DVD players. So, instead of having all three players installed, allow user to use all three engines from within Totem (naturally, the engines can only be fetched from non-free repos) and switch between them with ease. And of course, user should be warned, that if his DVD doesn't get played with one engine, he should try using the other one.

Totem: drag multiple files in playlist

Currently, if you try to change the order of several tracks selected in the playlist using the mouse, the result is that only the first track selected moves. So, it is necessary to move the tracks one at a time. It would be much easier (and quick) to be able to drag several tracks at a time.

More Totem visualizations out of the box

GOOM and Monoscope are nice, but I'd love to see some additional visualisations included with this player right from the start. New ubuntu users may not have the chops to add more.
Visualizations that are small and lightweight would be excellent candidates for inclusion.
