Ask to install codec when trying to play a youtube-video in Totem
Written by pepperpupper the 24 Sep 08 at 15:05. Not an idea
I think it would be useful if Totem would ask to install the appropriate codec when you try to watch a youtube-video using the plug-in in Totem. As it does with all other codecs...

Totem Movie and Music Player: Skip files in playlists on error, instead of dying
Written by tchalvakspam the 4 Nov 08 at 20:17. Not an idea
When Totem comes across a file that breaks, instead of failing on that file, it should skip to the next one, when a playlist is involved. The message should still be displayed to notify the user, but it shouldn't interrupt playback unless some kind of looping failure is occurring.

Call Totem Movie Player "Totem Movie Player" everywhere
Written by surfsunadam the 7 Sep 08 at 08:33. Not an idea
The default media player is called Totem Movie Player right? In the panel and the window heading it has this title, but in nautilus [when you right click for open-with] and the applications menu it is simply called 'Movie Player'.

It would be less confusing if the name was standardised across ubuntu

totem title bar when playing a video DVD
Written by kramer the 12 Dec 09 at 01:55. New
The totem title bar when playing a video DVD shows "cdrom0". This doesn't really make sense.

This could come from CDDB, maybe. With a fallback to #1.

Written by ubby the 5 May 09 at 07:59. New
On the Youtube website you can see the video's in HQ by pressing the HQ button.
It would be nice if you have the same option in Totem for the Youtube video's.

Movie Player should show how far it has buffered
Written by _alex_ the 20 Nov 08 at 02:37. New
The timeline in Totem should also be used as a progress bar to indicate how far Totem has buffered streaming videos. Also allow seeking anywhere in the buffered region. Here's a screenshot showing this in action on YouTube's player: http://s4.tinypic.com/9blv8g.jpg

The progress bar is also present in the default media players on other OSes, so many people are used to it.

Option to silence/pause other audio channels in Rhythmbox, Totem
Written by deadowl the 8 Nov 08 at 03:11. New
Okay, so the behavior of this just to be clear:
---The last application to check the option takes complete control.
---A signal should be sent to pause streaming multimedia that will accept the signal. Otherwise just mute is audio channel from Pulse if possible.
---Just mute everything without a pause (ex. someone on Pidgin comes online) until the movie or the playlist is over.

The reason I suggest this, is because I want to listen to Dark Side of the Moon without having to worry about muting Pidgin, or watch _any_ movie without having to worry about muting/pausing anything else.

All I want is a simple streamlining of processes that don't call for active attention by allowing you to not have to be nearly as active in beginning the passive activity.

Totem sidebar
Written by WolfiE the 22 Aug 08 at 18:14. New
In totem, the sidebar button which collapses the side menu has a > to indicate the hiding motion, however when it is "hidden", the > should become a < to represent the opposite motion, but it doesn't. Only a tiny thing for a programmer to change, but it would make the player a tiny bit better, so why not ?

Update: This has been submitted via Launchpad, someone has sent it upstream and triaged it. Thanks to the users who sent me to Launchpad.

Update: This has gone to the Gnome community, but they don't like the idea, if you do like this idea, please tell them at:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=549075

Update: It currently looks like the arrow is going to be removed altogether, which although not perfect is better than the current arrangement. The reason given was that the arrow looks like a secondary "play" button, which may lead to confusion (never thought of this myself). (Thanks to Pedro + Bastion)

Update: Eureka ! This has been released as a patch which removes the arrow. I'm so proud :D
Thanks
