Create integrated directory service based on ldap and kerberos. Automatic way to create new domain, script to add workstation in domain.
Ubuntu reps has all packages needed for that, but don't has simple way to do such things.
But powerful design need some coding, changes in nssldap.
Also we need openldap overlay smb5kpwd, powerful instruments for editing directory.
Nssldap dont get way for cross realm.

Network authentication and identity management is a topic that will be discussed during the next UDS.
There are multiple options and use cases. It would help to describe specific use cases defining the environment and the actions needed to be done so that proper tools can be designed and implemented.
Mentorship is available if you want to fix this bug.

Most server oriented Linux distribution consists of a bare system with manual configuration of every single services and no integration. THose are provided as a product, not as a solution.
I'm using SME Server 7.3, a nice CentOS based distribution, wich provide a large set of features, including (from contribs.org website) :
Ease of Administration
... web-based interface to enable easy administration ...
File and Print Sharing
... easy sharing of files and printers to Windows and Macintosh clients... via web, ftp, or file sharing.
Internet Connection
... gateway ... minimal configuration...
Email
... secure reliable email server ... individual and group addresses... webmail ... Antivirus and SpamAssassin ...
Firewall
Remote Access
... client-to-server VPNs...
Directory Services
Web Hosting
Raid and Backup
Automatic Updates
Extensible
SME use a template based configuration system writent in perl. It's a real pain to customize some configuration files, but in most case it just works.
SME server is currently a good alternative to Windows SBS server and is up and running in less than 30 minutes in most cases.

In the server install tasksel menu, include a "Domain Controller" option that allows for a (more or less) "drop-in replacement" for Microsoft Active Directory.
This would greatly reduce time to set up a full-fledged network in SMBs.
It would need to be easily configurable (web interface), and have functionality similar to rickyjone's Samba domain controller tutorial (see link), only automated :)

This is a great idea. However, depending on what you mean, it is more or less technically possible.
Currently we are waiting for Samba 4 to be available in order to be able to create a feature-complete domain controller. We can build an OpenLdap, Samba, Kerberos server now, that will work well for *nix* servers, but will not function as an AD replacement for Windows clients.

I believe more could be done to the server edition to make it more user friendly and to improve its image/acceptance as a server operating system.
Idea:
I think it would be a good idea to create and implement a web interface control panel for Ubuntu. The control panel would have the same objectives as Plesk, or cPanel, thus making the whole experience more user friendly.
It could contain a number of features, such as:
- Add/edit/delete a hosting account (with user account/domain etc)
- Control panel for users as well
- Reboot server & services
- Edit DNS zones
- Server status (loads)
- Bandwidth usage reports
- Add/edit/delete MySQL databases
- And all of the other essential features found in control panels such as Plesk and cPanel
If Ubuntu server edition could implement something like this "out of the box" it would also give Ubuntu server edition a better image and may create a wider acceptance for its use as a server operating system.
Also, many popular web control panels (Such as cPanel) don't officially support Ubuntu. So I think this makes my suggestion even more important.
I realise that I could have gone into more depth when adding suggestions for features, but I thought I'd keep it as short as possible so that it's easy to read.

Easy way to manage multiple Internet connections with one server.
Example: if i have 2 group of users Sales and IT, and i have 2 adsl connections, i want to use one ADSL for sales group and another for IT, but if Sales group is not using your adsl, IT can use it (load balancing).

There should be no reason to include the /usr/games environment path on a server installation. This should not be in the $PATH by default, and serves no purpose other then to weaken security. Please correct me if I'm wrong in this.
I did check debian etch installation $PATH variable, and it does not have /usr/games in it.

I'm from a Windows background, and have recently migrated all my home computers across to Ubuntu with varying success. All bar one.
the one yet to be done is my Windows Home Server.
What it does is the following;
1. Central location for storage of data files that can be shared on a users internal LAN, and also with the option for Remote access.
2. Easy configuration of folders and user accounts on the Home server
3. Automated backup of client machines to the server
4. Runs headless (ie once installed, no keyboard, mouse or monitor required as most administrative tasks can be done either via the 'console' one any of the client machines, or via RDP
5. Instalation of a 'connector' onto each client, where you can access the console, set backups.
6. Installs a 'shared folders' icon where you automatically have access to the folders you have rights to
I'm fully aware this IS possible using Ubuntu, but I'm also aware that it involves a LOT of configuration of the different services on both the Server machine as well as EACH client.
Windows Home Server is based on Server 2003, and as part of the installation, disables certain parts which are not required (such as domain controller - is this required within the home ?), and sets the remaining configuration to the Home Server.
The main thing with it, is that it really does just work. Install via the cd/dvd, install the connector software, and thats it.
The Idea is to make an easy Groupware Server for Ubuntu. Beause we have on very good Client like Thunderbird and Evolution, but the on easy server ubuntu dont have. All company s need one good and easy Groupware.
With based of:
MTA -> posfix or exim
MDA -> IMAP / POP / WEBACCESS ( APACHE )
User / Group Administration per Webaccess
Calender -> ICAL Server from Apple (opensource)
Global Access Bock ->(OpenLDAP)
Database -> MYSQL
SPAM Filter+ ClamAV -> for Postfix
Whit this Featuares:
Easy Administration for User and Groups like Kolab for KDE
Connector to Evolution,Thunderbird (sunbird), Outlook
Primary and frist Evolution
On User and Group Database for Samba and all Appliations.
And Easy Way to write Add.Ons for OpenOffice ERP CRM and so on.
Sorry for my bad english i hope all can understood my Idea.
