Specific dialogue for selecting icons
Written by bilufe the 20 Dec 11 at 01:19. Related project: Gnome. New
Currently, trying to change the icon of an application leads to an Ubuntu file selection screen, where you must navigate to the folder / usr / share / pixmaps or / usr / share / icons to choose the appropriate icon. This is not at all intuitive.

Solution #1: Create a selection dialog custom icons
Written by bilufe the 20 Dec 11 at 01:19.
As already happens in KDE and XFCE, where there is a dialogue specific to the selection of icons, facilitating the selection and still allowing the file system navigation, my idea is that the Gnome dialog should have a selection of icons that follows the same idea of KDE and Xfce.

Solution #2: detect and use
Written by deltrem the 20 Jan 12 at 20:48.
When I open the application, what icon appears in the unity launcher for the application?

First time I double-click the app shortcut, the app icon is detected and used as the app shortcut icon.

Selecting fonts to install is cumbersome.
Written by alms66 the 7 Dec 11 at 21:55. Related project: Ubuntu Software Center. New
There are something like 100 packages to go through for fonts in the Software Center, which is a pain to actually do.

Solution #1: Better Organization
Written by alms66 the 7 Dec 11 at 21:55.
Organize the font packages into Free and Restricted packages.

Also, remove any fonts from "Ubuntu Restricted Extras"

Have 2 basic font packages in Software Center, or the option for those that want more fine tuning, they can dig down into all the 100 or so packages and deal with them on a one-by-one basis.

Free Fonts Only (installs/removes all free font packages)

Restricted Fonts Only (installs/removes all restricted font packages)

Solution #4: Font preview in Fonts category list
Written by Spitfire 95 the 12 Dec 11 at 17:56.
Add a GtkImage Widget between the label for the font and the remove button in the fonts list on the Fonts category in the Ubuntu Software-Center.

It should be very easy for users to test latest development kernels
Written by Marcelo Ruiz the 24 Jan 12 at 07:40. Global category: Quality. New
Many times I submitted a bug I was requested to test the latest Ubuntu development kernel. Also, if the bug was triaged, the latest development kernel from Kernel.org.
The experience of building either of them is painful, especially for new users, and this discourage them to test whether a bug is present in either of those versions.

Solution #1: Provide a tool similar to Kernel Check
Written by Marcelo Ruiz the 24 Jan 12 at 07:40.
Ubuntu should provide a tool (with a Graphical User Interface) to allow users to automatically build the new development kernels. It could be similar or based on Kernel Check:

http://kcheck.sourceforge.net/

The idea is to make the process completely transparent and painless to the end user.

HUD is pure pain in Chinese environment.
Written by test1943 the 26 Apr 12 at 20:49. Related project: Unity. New
HUD in a Chinese environment is nothing but a pure pain. Imagine this, you
1.press alt to evoke HUD,
2.Ctrl+Space to switch to Chinese,
3.input with pinyin/wubi or whatever,
4.choose a word from candidates,
5.input more words if you don't get what you want.

As you would see here this is absolutely pain and utterly inefficient.

Solution #1: Use pinyin or English to filter commands instead
Written by test1943 the 26 Apr 12 at 20:49.
I don't know much of technical details but possible ways to solve this are:
1. allow using English commands, for example allow to input "help" instead of "帮助",
2. allow using pinyin commands, for example allow to "bangzhu" instead of "帮助",
3. provide a way to shut down HUD in environments like this.

I like the first way but the second way is what most people would want because not that many people are good with English.
And I think the third way is a MUST because no matter how good HUD gets it would always be somewhat complicated for starters.
