Support Andrea Cimitan, author of the Murrine, Clearlooks and Gnomes' RGBA!
Written by mangar the 16 Nov 08 at 16:00. Related project: ubuntu.com. New
Andrea Cimitian, the Author of the Murrine and Clearlooks theme engines, as well as the RGBA color space support for Gnome, is entering University, and is in need for monetary support in order to buy a laptop - so he can continue developing Murrine and other Gnome eye candy.

Please support him monetarily, or, for the very least, send him hardware donations! (Either by Canonical or the Community).

Solution #1: Auto-generated solution of idea #15680
Written by mangar the 16 Nov 08 at 16:00.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #15680 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

Solution #2: rgba - everything should be transparent in gnome
Written by slsolaris the 20 Mar 09 at 02:32.
this is absolutely great, canonical is always talking about making ubuntu as great as possible, so they should support-work on this project and add by defaut every plug-in http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/rgba-support/list?page=1 in ubuntu and include some ubuntu-murrine themes in the next release.

everything should be transparent = yes
but aas easy to torn off as when we are dealing with a plug-in even in totem and nautilus

this does not have anything to do with compiz, it just work as any plug-in, so you can enable it as any other plug-in for the application you want!

as you can see in this screen-shot i am activating a plug-in called: "Rgba Visual"
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/384589/MURRIN%7E1.JPG

In my case i just got Metacity's composite manager enabled but you can activate compiz and get this:
http://gnome-look.org/CONTENT/content-pre2/42755-2.jpg
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/384589/42755-3.jpg
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=42755

the main difference between this and others transparency creators is that murrine applies real transparency to windows but it is not applied to text, as you can see in the screen-shot, so we can read text clearly having a real and native transparency.
we can disable-enable native transparency whenever we want, great!
