Python Snippets from WWW in IDLE as menu
Written by UbuKunubi the 12 May 09 at 06:44. Related project: IDLE. New
I propose a RSS feed type fed menu for python snippets and samples.
A right-click context menu that allows for snippets to be added, and incorrect/wrong snippets to be voted for removal.

Hunting around the web for samples of python code is time consuming and slows program writing, often at a critical moment.

The internet is strewn with duplicates of samples for doing the same thing, and often for different versions of Python.
Having a snippets tool that is web-based would simplify the search, and a built-in tool like this would reduce the duplicates that are littered everywhere.

The implemented idea could be broken down:
Snippet type: gui, file handling, port handling, networking, graphics, html & xml, maths, string handling, time and date, loops, conditions, templates, , command line, examples, hello world samples, etc.
And API's for importing and installing type: Beautiful soup, bluetooth, skype, parallel, serial, etc.

This means that errors from attempting to use a snippet from a API that has not been installed can be eliminated.

Solution #1: Include 'insert snippet' in context menu in addition to set/clear breakpoint
Written by UbuKunubi the 12 May 09 at 06:44.
To solve this problem I would first search for and store code samples from the internet, making a note of what version of python they are from, and a note cataloging.

One solution to adding new snippets would be to use curl and twitter, or similar to post new snippets, with some form of encapsulating so large snippets can span many posts.

A search function for snippets would be useful as well so i would investigate how this could be built into IDLE.

LaTeXiT for Ubuntu
Written by Christoph. the 16 Jun 10 at 15:32. Global category: Programming. New
LaTeXit is an equation editor for Mac OS X that produces PDF-files interactively from LaTeX expressions. Drag&drop to other applications is supported. Unfortunately, Ubuntu lacks a comparable alternative of this program. (LaTeXiT: http://chachatelier.fr/programmation/latexit_en.php )

Solution #1: Extend texgd
Written by Christoph. the 16 Jun 10 at 15:32.
Texgd could be extended, such that it not only creates PNGs, but output-files of other formats, too. Additionally, A GUI would have to be implemented.

Solution #2: Continue development of Ekee
Written by Christoph. the 16 Jun 10 at 15:33.
Ekee is a free LaTeXiT clone (released under the GPL: http://rlehy.free.fr/ ), which already comes with a GUI. Its development is currently discontinued, although it provides great functionality. The existing code should be further developed.

It's available at http://latexyt.googlecode.com . I still need to make a .deb for it.

Solution #4: Try FLEG
Written by karlg the 22 Jul 12 at 16:41.
FLEG (Fast Latex Equation Generator) is a simple LaTeXiT clone written in Python. It is free, open and available at http://www.karl-goedel.de/pages/software/fleg.php .
Disadvantage: It has many dependencies.

Ability to re-review an image once screensaver has moved on, to next image
Written by hunterrj2 the 14 Apr 10 at 10:41. Related project: Add/Remove program dialog. New
Often, a photo will be displayed when screensaver is operating, that maybe I haven't seen for a long time.

Screensaver then moves onto next image.

I want to be able to press "back" arrow to review that previous image, without de-activating the screensaver program.

remove eclipse from the ubuntu repositories

Written by karlzt. the 23 Jun 09 at 14:40. Related project: Eclipse. Won't implement
This would help to prevent a bad user experience (install 3.2 via repo, use it, find out its 3 years old, migrate to 3.5 manually)

If eclipse will want to be in Ubuntu they'll need to cooperate themselves, as Ubuntu clearly does not have enough man power. On the other hand, keeping eclipse 3.2 gives a bad reputation to Ubuntu.

Solution #1: install eclipse from the website
Written by karlzt. the 23 Jun 09 at 14:40.
if there is no such package, it's not too bad, since eclipse must be kept up-to date, and people using eclipse is typically used to get it from the web site.

Solution #2: Update eclipse in the repos
Written by Rodrigo the 25 Jun 09 at 17:11.
Try to bring the latest eclipse to the repos. This way the "user experience" will be better.

Solution #3: Add a installer package to the repos
Written by JanMalte the 8 Jul 09 at 06:01.
Add a installer package to the repos. Just like the flash-installer or the msttcorefonts package.

This would help top keep the latest version of eclipse without changing the package every time.

Solution #4: Connect the repositories to the developer
Written by fernandoc1 the 13 Jul 09 at 18:07.
Many packages on the repositories become too old very quickly.
Would be great if some packages could be downloaded directly from the developer site through the "Add/Remove..." in application menu or through "Synaptic". It would improve user experience.

Solution #5: Let eclipse open their repository like any respectable major app developer would
Written by vexorian the 16 Jul 09 at 23:01.
Eclipse in ubuntu's repos should only get updated with every distro release, unless it is for major bugs/security fixes.

People wanting the latest version need depend on a "third party repo" hopefully from eclipse themselves. Like happens with virtualbox, WINE and other app developments.

Solution #6: This will all be a moot point once the AppCenter comes out
Written by Clorox the 20 Jul 09 at 18:01.
Eclipse already has their own Launchpad PPA. Once the AppCenter has the functionality to add PPAs, then none of these solutions will be needed.

Solution #2: Auto Detect Language
Written by Shady3D the 8 Jun 09 at 22:20.
another thing that i notices there are two ways to highlight
1. i would specify it manually.
2. the document format that i am using.

so if just when i type it detects what i want even when i put CSS and JavaScript in it; it would highlight them too without affecting the rest of the document.
