Ability to Pay Ubuntu to licence codecs legaly?
Written by loadbalancer the 28 Feb 08 at 20:50. Global category: Others. Implemented
Would it not be possible to negotiate a deal for MP3/DVD/MS Fonts etc?
The deal would enable patent/copyright holders to charge users on a per user basis for their proprietary code/designs/patents.

At the moment if I want a licence to record MP3s on Linux I need to pay the patent holder (thomson) an awful lot of money and negotiate a deal myself.
I believe the current bulk rate is

apturl in Evince with PDF files
Written by antistress the 3 Mar 08 at 01:33. Global category: Others. Implemented
Apturl is very useful for documentation concerning Ubuntu.

Firefox and Epiphany use it and allow to easily install a software from a documentation website

There is also documentation in PDF files, and therefore Evince should also cope with apturl

Better release notes for Ubuntu 8.04
Written by Ubuwu the 24 Mar 08 at 14:59. Global category: Others. Implemented
Ubuntu’s goal is to be the most popular desktop OS for humans. But new versions of Ubuntu, like most Linux distros, are still marketed towards Linux geeks. They’re concerned with technology, trumpeting version numbers and drowning out the actual things you can do with their software.

We’re picking on Ubuntu specifically because it has higher goals than most distros - it’s Linux for human beings, not Linux for hackers. Unfortunately, the release announcements have forgotten what humans care primarily about: themselves.

That website seems to be down, but here is the cached version on google:

Developer comments
This desktop tour, linked from the ubuntu.com frontpage, should be much more "Human-friendly"!

8.04 "Hardy Heron" Countdown
Written by Eldmannen the 13 Mar 08 at 23:01. Global category: Others. Implemented
For the 7.10 "Gutsy Gibbon" release we had a 'countdown'.
* http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/countdown

Users could link to an image/script that would countdown for every day that pass. Like "Ubuntu 7.10 - 93 days left".

And users could post it on their blogs, forums, websites, etc and it would generate a buzz and hype around the upcoming Ubuntu release and get people excited.

It was great. I propose we do the countdown again, now this time for the 8.04 "Hardy Heron" release.

Developer comments
See http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/countdown.
In short, include the following code in your website:
<script src="http://www.ubuntu.com/files/countdown/display.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Create a "works with Ubuntu" logo for hardware   forum
Written by marvo the 3 Mar 08 at 12:39. Global category: Others. Implemented
Whenever users plan to buy new hardware for their ubuntu machines, they first have to search the web to find informations about kernel/driver support or incompatibility issues.

It would be really helpful if a sticker on the outside of the box of a scanner/printer/usb-dvb-tuner/mp3(ogg)-player/digicam/... simply said "works with ubuntu" or "designed for GNU/Linux" to guarantee that the product runs "out of the box" with Ubuntu or other Linux distributions.

Fix paging on Brainstorm
Written by stevec the 3 Mar 08 at 20:19. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Implemented
As of the time of this writing, if going to "Ideas being worked upon," "Implemented ideas," and I would assume other sections, if you scroll to the bottom and hit Next or a different page number (e.g. "2"), you get a 404 error where instead of taking you to
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/ideas_being_worked_upon/2

it takes you to

Brainstorm 'search' needs to include Titles!
Written by sdsalsero the 2 Mar 08 at 22:49. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Implemented
If I'm not mistaken the search function on this new Brainstorm server is not including (indexing) the Idea Titles. This would explain the bizarrely poor search-results. Was this simply a mistake in the initial configuration?

Fix Brainstorm Search
Written by elias1884 the 4 Mar 08 at 01:48. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Implemented
Brainstorm search is completely broken. I can not find this idea at all.

Try finding this for example: "Allow relations between ideas and rank those Idea Clouds" http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/1512/

Unfindable!

Search for "Hibernate" for example. This, the most popular idea ever, does not show up: "Fix Suspend and Hibernate" http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/94/

add opcions to brainstorm
Written by theteam the 1 Mar 08 at 12:00. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Implemented
I think that is necessary put some buttons in the left panel of this page.

I propose:
"voted ideas": when only appear the ideas that you voted
"no voted ideas": when only appear the ideas that you don´t vote
"random ideas": obviously.
"posted ideas": when only appear the ideas that you have posted in it.
"categories": i think is necessary separate ideas in categories an put an index in the left.
