Gnome: Create something similar to KDEs FolderView for the desktop
Written by blablum the 14 Jun 08 at 17:31. Global category: Others. New
Kde's FolderView allows you to have files from different folders shown in your desktop, even allowing filtering. It seems rather usefull. Gnome should have something similar.

(I know it is a gnome suggestion, but I think it's good to post it here)

Solution #4: implement in Gnome-Do
Written by Shady3D the 1 Jul 09 at 13:56.
probably every one will hate this solution, as Gnome-Do is a C# application, but i just feel its good if this feature is in Gnome-Do

Add a link in initial Firefox home page with suggested packages to install
Written by blablum the 20 Jun 08 at 01:05. Global category: Others. New
A big complain from people that are considering switching to linux is that they believe playing movies (codecs), dvds, etc is hard in linux, when all you need to do is install a few simple packages. Since most of these packages cannot be included by default, it would be nice if the firefox home page that first appears on a fresh install had a link to a guide with suggested packages to install, with a warning that some of these packages are not open source and might not be free (as in beer) in some places, and possibly from 3rd parties.

My list would include ubuntu-restricted, build-essentials, and possibly some of the packages in medibuntu which include software former M$ users would recognize like adobe, skype, google-earth, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of other packages that could be suggested in the comments.

It would also be nice if this page would explain how programs are installed in ubuntu and the advantages of using software from the repositories.
