OpenOffice.org in Ubuntu: Bold Italic and Underline should be B I U not A A A
Written by turbolad the 9 Dec 10 at 16:10. Not an idea
OpenOffice.org in Ubuntu shows a capital "A" in the toolbar on the Bold, Italic and Underline. It's rather odd, given that OpenOffice.org for Windows has "B" "I" "U" for Bold, Italic and Underline respectively.

Solution #1: Use the styled B I U for Bold Italic and Underline
Written by turbolad the 9 Dec 10 at 16:10.
Instead of using the styled letter A, why not use the standard "B" "I" and "U" so users can see instantly which one to click on to apply the Bold, Italic and Underline formatting? That's more intuitive for new users than studying the 3 A's.

I know the 3 "A" buttons' visual styling shows what they do, but it would be much nicer to keep the standard "B" "I" and "U" with that same styling.

Solution #3: Solution #1, but make it multilingual!
Written by patrick2901 the 12 Dec 10 at 15:14.
Generally I agree with the problem and solution #1, but please keep in mind that there are differences between languages (maybe that was a reason for choosing A/A/A). In Germany, e.g., F (fett), K (kursiv) and U (unterstrichen) are in common use.

BTW: I think, this affects LibreOffice, not OpenOffice anymore...!

Solution #4: Open Office addon
Written by Habeouscorpus the 8 Jan 11 at 15:35.
An addon could be made that would switch them into any letter you want. It could be a simple little patch, and be offered on Open Office.org for people to download and enjoy. I for one have an addon installed (because I'm lazy and want one-click pagination) and they blend in smoothly. After changing it, the user hardly notices, and they update automatically.
