Add a way to export documents to be 100% readable/printable on Windows
Written by aruseni the 31 Mar 11 at 17:28. Not an idea
OpenOffice.org works great, including the Writer application. The only problem is that it doesn’t support exporting files to doc/docx/rtf which works on all these crappy versions of MS Word, especially when the text contains non-latin characters. The exporting works, in fact, though it is always like a card game — maybe the file will be readable on the Windows computer with a specific version of MS Word, and maybe not. Exporting to HTML doesn’t work correctly with some of the formatting. The PDF export, though, works amazingly, without any problems, but hey, it is not really common to find a PDF reader on a Windows computer (especially if it is an office computer without Internet access, which you have to, however, use for printing documents). The workaround would be to place a portable (yes, maybe you are not even allowed to install new software on the computer) PDF reader on the flash drive, but it is not much comfortable, especially if the person doesn’t know where to get a portable PDF reader and also he or she hasn’t a background in computer enough to open the portable reader, then find the open dialog in the reader, and then find the needed file and open it.

Solution #1: Add a special executable format which doesn’t require any additional software
Written by aruseni the 31 Mar 11 at 17:28.
The possible solution is to add an option to export the document to an executable format, which can, for example, contain the document in PDF and an embedded lightweight PDF reader which displays the document.

This would allow the users to read and print their documents on Windows computers, even if there is no Internet access and there’s no PDF reader on the computer, with correct charset and without formatting issues.

Solution #2: Add a self-extracting-pdf printer to CUPS
Written by cheesehead the 31 Mar 11 at 18:27.
Instead of an export feature in OpenOffice/LibreOffice, let CUPS create the PDF and .exe so lots of applications can benefit. (Fully recognizing sending around .exe files is obviously very poor practice for most situations outside this Rationale)

Solution #3: standards
Written by tumaru the 4 Apr 11 at 21:40.
Or there could be some sort of standards agreed upon. Something that is both compatible with Microsoft and the rest of the world just like USB and IP.

If only there was a way of making it so that both sides could read it without making it much larger.

Solution #4: Macromedia Flash Viewer.
Written by Lachu the 10 Apr 11 at 06:30.
Like in Solution 1, but instead of exe files, pack document to Macromedia Flash File Format, so people can see the document using Flash.

Flash are installed on many computers, more than PDF reader. Especially program to create presentation should have import to Flash option.

Solution #5: ODF propaganda.
Written by Lachu the 10 Apr 11 at 07:13.
Create ODF viewer for very small devices. It should only view ODT and ODP documents, without way to editing.

Why this? Many smartphones working on Linux. Linux is dominating this market. Also, average human have cell phone. Once cell phones could open ODT/ODP documents and Windows does not, people will asks Microsoft: "Why Windows is broken".
