Repair OOO save button
Written by Primož Papič the 13 May 08 at 16:37. Global category: Office. Implemented
Now when you click on save button in Open Office it doesn't becomes "unclickable" (for lack of the better word).
This should be repaired, because I think that other distros have that, and Windows have that.
That was one of main reason that I went from word to open office.
---------------
Why is this good idea to do:
Because when you quit, you don't to double check if you saved the last version of document. Because this is clearly show by the button save, because you can't click on it again.

Make workarea in OpenOffice immune to theming.
Written by animaniac the 2 Jul 08 at 22:00. Global category: Office. Implemented
Having installed a darker theme, i find the fact that OpenOffice themes the work area irritating, i want to have my entry/selection boxes themed darker, it complements the theme, but the area where one works with the layout of a document should not be affected.

Heres a screenshot:
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/9832/screenshotar5.png

The whole idea of modern word processing, ever since xerox (1981?) invented it is that the document is meant to look the same on the screen as it will be when it is printed, letting the theme effect the document breaks the concept.

This also effects print preview, one needs to export the document as PDF to see what it will look like printed.
GIMP and Inkscape are not effected. nor any other app where i might not want this happening, only oo.

Selected solution (#1): Add XPS support to Evince
Written by samcan the 31 Aug 08 at 22:56.
Okular has some preliminary support of the file format, but as I prefer to use Gnome applications, having the file format readable by Evince would be nice.

'Replace documents color' option in evince
Written by Grieteke the 20 Jul 08 at 11:34. Related project: Evince Document Viewer. Implemented
I really like Evince, yet I still use acrobat reader because Evince lacks the option to replace documents color. I use this option very often to force a black background with white text, because this is much better for my eyes (I'm very sensitive to light).
So, there should be an option added to Evince to use a custom color scheme which can use any color schame the user defines.

Recent Documents on start up splash screen
Written by pacice the 17 Nov 10 at 19:31. Related project: OpenOffice.org Word Processor. Implemented
I would like to see the option for Recent Documents to appear on the start up splash screen.

When starting Open Office, the splash screen give options for Text Document, Spreadsheet, Open a new document etc. I find more times than not, I am having to go up to the menu to select recent document to open the file I have recently been working on.
Being able to access straight from the splash screen would be useful.

Don't include OO.org Writer in Xubuntu
Written by Blueface the 14 Mar 08 at 20:45. Global category: Office. Implemented
Xubuntu is supposed to be lightweight and in my opinion OpenOffice.org Writer isn't lightweight.

I don't think we should include it in the default install since Xubuntu already has AbiWord which is a much better option for Xubuntu. But I think that we should still leave OpenOffice.org on the CD in case anyone would want to install it.

Make it simpler to install fonts
Written by MattRogers1982 the 20 Jan 09 at 12:55. Related project: AbiWord Word Processor. Implemented
As we all know .ttf fonts are stored in usr/share/fonts, and there are many websites offering free .ttf files for download. The problem is that it is very difficult for an inexperienced user to place these fonts in the relevant folder as it is somewhat unintuitive. It is experiences like this where simple functions are unnecessarily complicated, which make Linux seem like a less than ideal option for many users.

Selected solution (#1): Simple font installation program
Written by MattRogers1982 the 20 Jan 09 at 12:55.
by creating a simple GUI for font installation this particular frustration could be removed entirely. there is nothing more daunting to a user than to check the forums to find that the only way to perform a relatively common function is through the command line.

Selected solution (#3): For a GUI, bring back dfontmgr (front end for defoma) as a control panel
Written by cheesehead the 20 Jan 09 at 17:22.
defoma, the debian font manager, is the convenient command-line method for installing and tracking fonts.

dfontmgr, the graphical front end for defoma, has been deprecated because it still relies on GTK1. Update it and bring it back as a control panel for users who really want the GUI to manage fonts.

Selected solution (#4): Make a Nautilus script
Written by SakJur the 20 Jan 09 at 20:38.
The simpliest way according to me is to use a simple nautilus script that installs the font with just right-clicking on it and then press on a menu option named "Install font" (or similary)

Selected solution (#5): Add install button to font viewer
Written by vexorian the 1 Feb 09 at 16:54.
Font viewer is that program that previous the font when you double click on it. Of course this solution does not prevent other solutions from happening.

IIRC, windows does this.

Selected solution (#6): Font Management Application
Written by lutimdale the 9 Feb 09 at 23:51.
A font management application should be used that would INSTALL as well as VIEW fonts.

View mode would have 4 columns
GROUPING: logical grouping similar to playlist (eg. monospace, sans serif, serif, artistic, unfiled, etc.)
FONT: font name includes all variants (eg. Arial)
VARIANT: Bold, Italic, Bold Italic, Regular
PREVIEW: full alphabet in lowercase and uppercase.

Install mode would work by:
- from menu... file > Install new Font
which would prompt for the file name
- from menu... file > Install Fonts from folder
which would prompt for the folder structure to import
- drag and drop of font file anywhere in UI (filed under "unfiled")
- drag and drop of font file to specific GROUPING
- shell extension to install new font

This application should also allow easy enabling/disabling of fonts simply by checking an "Active" property checkbox beside the font.

Selected solution (#8): Re: Manual installation of Fonts made easier
Written by arvindkumarc the 12 Jul 09 at 02:40.
Write a folder listener, so that to add or remove from the cache as soon as something is pasted or deleted from the folder. So that the only procedure is to place the new font in "/usr/share/fonts/truetype".

Evolution contacts refining, especially notes field
Written by tellapu the 18 Nov 08 at 09:51. Related project: Evolution Mail and Calendar. Implemented
The contact form is already getting better. The "notes" field is really small. If you have more than one line you have to scroll what it is not convenient. For example looking for the directions to the friends place, ...

Selected solution (#1): Larger "Notes" field in contact form of Evolution
Written by tellapu the 18 Nov 08 at 09:51.
The solution is very easy :-) Just design the "Notes"-field bigger, so you can read all your notes without scrolling (similar to outlook). It could be a new tab or another idea! In Pimlico this has been implemented already, well done!
