Multiple Audio Output
Written by jokerinux the 21 Mar 11 at 12:57. Category: Additional software. Already implemented
It would be great if Ubuntu will permit to stream audio through differente audio output at the same time.

ex: stream audio to the hdmi and to the home theatre amplifier at the same time (through optical or coxial).

It will make ubuntu the default distro to all the htpc solution.

(for example xbmc is based on ubuntu and this implementation would give a great help for everyone who wants to listen to their music on different rooms)

This is possible today only with alsa (and removing pulse) but it requires a lot oh hacker skill (that everyone don't have).

Solution #1: Pulse development
Written by jokerinux the 21 Mar 11 at 12:57.
i think this issue can be solved with a development on pulse or alsa. But i don't have the required skills to do that.

Solution #2: Add the ability to remap port functions within sound cards
Written by clonejo the 7 Apr 11 at 18:35.
In some Realtek sound driver for the OS which must not be named I've seen the ability to remap the functions for each port. So you can just plug in your microphone (or anything else) in any plug (audio output, back speakers etc.) and then select the appropiate function for that port.
But I am afraid this would require further development on sound drivers.

Solution #3: Better pulse configuration tool
Written by markush the 10 Apr 11 at 09:02.
To my knowledge this is already within the capabilities of pulse. I think what we would need is just an easy to use configuration tool. And one of the key requirements is that it is easy to switch between various output possibilities, see e.g. idea #27223 http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/27223/

Solution #4: Multiple outputs
Written by Chronos the 10 Apr 11 at 14:47.
Sometimes we are using a PC for several purposes. It would be awesome to be able to watch a movie and listen to music through headphones at the same time. I think this would be easy to make if the hardware is supporting remapping.
