Auto enlarge fonts/zooms further away you are from screen (Large LCD TV)
Written by HardDisk the 12 Jun 10 at 15:07. New
font sizes tend to be small on very large LCD screens, I would like a way to automatically enlarge fonts depending on how close I sit to an LCD TV.

Solution #1: Bluetooth proximity tech detect distance of user from LCD TV for font enlarging
Written by HardDisk the 12 Jun 10 at 15:07.
blue proximity is an application that is used to detect a Bluetooth device's distance and according to it, it can lock your computer or unlock it.

Using the same technology one could incorporate it when they have large LCD/LED TV's (40"+), the closer you get to the TV, or the further you are away from it, it enlarges font size for ease of viewing.

Use Closed Caption To Filter Profanity
Written by mes5464 the 5 Jun 10 at 20:46. New
I do not want to expose my children to profanity. I currently use a device called a TV Guardian to accomplish this.

Solution #1: Implement Profanity Filtering Through Software
Written by mes5464 the 5 Jun 10 at 20:46.
In my home I use the TV Guardian to filter profanity from tv and movies. I plan to build a Mythbuntu box and I want to replace the TV Guardian. I would like to see a software implementation of the hardware in the TV Guardian. It would monitor the closed caption signal for a list of profanity. When it sees profanity coming it mutes the audio, deletes out the profanity from the caption, displays the closed caption for that moment. Then it turns off the caption and un-mutes the audio. Software may not be as fast as hardware so it may need to buffer the signal. I would like to see this work for tv and movies/DVDs. I would also like to be able to edit the list of profanity myself. Maybe even have multiple lists for different depths of filtering.

Filenames of recordings of mythbuntu are not descriptive
Written by the 28 Feb 10 at 06:21. New
Mythbuntu can file-share the shows it has recorded via windows filesharing or NFS. This works great, but I have no idea what file contains what show. The filenames are like this:

1001_20100228065000.mpg
1001_20100228065500.mpg

This means I have to use trial and error to find the show I want to see.

Solution #1: Create symlinks with a descriptive name
Written by the 28 Feb 10 at 06:21.
Create a folder with symlinks to the recordings like this:

Dirty Jobs - Discovery Channel Sun 28 feb 2010 07:00 ->1001_20100228065000.mpg

This way I can instantly see what shows have been recorded.

Best regards,
Cedric

Solution #2: Make it configurable
Written by the 28 Feb 10 at 06:24.
Not everybody wants the same format for the filenames. Therefore it would be nice to have some kind for format string using variables.

There could be the following variables:
SHOWNAME
CHANNEL
DATE
TIME

Then this could be the formatstring:
$SHOWNAME - $CHANNEL $DATE $TIME

And this the resulting symlink:
Dirty Jobs - Discovery Channel Sun 28 feb 2010 07:00

Build on Netflix API to allow Streaming Movies in Queue
Written by Techcowboy77 the 24 Dec 09 at 22:01. New
Netflix opened their API's to developers to allow more functionality to their customers. I would like to know if it is possible to build on these API's to allow Mythbuntu users to stream their Watch Instantly queue to their mythtv systems.

switch to mythwelcome to start frontend
Written by locutus233ca the 12 Dec 09 at 07:05. New
Mythfrontend seams to always have one or two minor issues that can cause it to crash or stop working unexpectedly

Solution #1: use mythwelcome as the wrapper for mythfrontend
Written by locutus233ca the 12 Dec 09 at 07:05.
This can easily be accomplished by changing the program that is started from mythfrontend to mythwelcome in the default settings. I have already done this on my system. I figure everyone should get this benefit.

Mythwelcome could probably also stand some improvements as well.

Putting Recording Rules To Sleep
Written by wilson.joe the 30 Nov 09 at 02:27. New

Perhaps one is tired of watching a given show all the time, and doesn't want to remove the rule. or one is going on vacation and doesn't want to run out of space or end up overwriting the given recordings one already has.. one could set it for a day up to say a month.. It can also be useful if one has only one tuner and two shows are in the same time slot, but can put the one to sleep and check out the other show for awhile..

Add an option to the recording rules menu, giving the ability to set a rule to sleep for a given period of time..

Mythtv Sleep
Written by dagreatk the 24 Nov 09 at 00:56. New
Mythtv has a function that you can access from the menu to set a sleep timer but it only exits the video. I would like to set mythtv to sleep and after the timer finishes it shuts down the pc instead of just exiting that particular program like LiveTV or watching a video or recording.

Solution #1: Add sleep options

If possible maybe add a function that will allow one to set sleep to shutdown pc or exit frontend to mythwelcome where it can be configured to shutdown.

Skype controls in Mythbuntu
Written by faultycpu the 14 Oct 09 at 01:49. New
If it is possible to have skype controls in Mythbuntu the same way there are phone controls.

Example: You would have skype loaded. If a call comes in you could use the remote to accept or reject the call. By accepting the call the media is paused, Live TV or played media. When the call is finished you would be given the options to stop, continue, exit. It would be nice to control the skype functions within Mythbuntu.

Solution #2: Run script on incoming calls
Written by spacedoubtman the 10 Dec 09 at 00:17.
Its annoying that linux skype doesn't have shortcut keys. Makes it hard to get working with a remote.

I've written a little script using the skype api that supports answer and hang up of calls if you are interested. I don't use skype a whole lot so its not tested that well but should do the trick.

http://core-inertia.com/skype_pickup.py

To use run skype and go to options / notifications / advanced then set incomming call ringing to run this script eg. python skype_pickup.py

Then when you get a call the script suspends mythtv and you get a nice standard ok/cancel box. If you have enter and escape keys bound on your remote you can use these to accept or reject the call.

Probably best to run it from the command line first to make sure its working ok. You also need to install these additional ubuntu packages:
python-wxgtk
python-skype
skype
wmctrl

Gallery Slideshow Screensaver
Written by jhfry the 24 Sep 09 at 03:18. New
I would like to use the MythGallery slideshow as a screensaver.

Currently I use the GLSlideshow screensaver and it works OK, but it seems to me that with all of the media that mythtv has at it's disposal, it would make sense to use some of it as a screensaver.

Solution #1: use existing screensaver infrastructure to start/stop slideshow
Written by jhfry the 24 Sep 09 at 03:18.
This could be implemented a number of ways, however I think the simplest would be creating a commandline method for starting a mythgallery slideshow, and then using the existing screensaver subsystems to initialize it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this could be implemented in a indirect way without modifying anything upstream, and could be added as part of the mythbuntu control center.
