Add an introduction to Ubuntu One
Written by TorK the 24 Oct 09 at 21:22. Global category: Documentation. New
After Upgrading to Karmic (9.10) I see a new icon among the Favorites called "Ubuntu One". Curious, I click it. First, nothing happens for a long time. Eventually a webpage opens that asks me to log in to Launchpad. I do that, and the next page asks me to connect a computer. Nowhere did it tell me just what "Ubuntu One" is or how it works.

Solution #1: Add introduction
Written by TorK the 24 Oct 09 at 21:22.
Add an explanation about what Ubuntu One is that opens when clicking the icon, perhaps in the webpage before asking to log in.

Solution #2: Have a first launch "wizard" that explains what U1 is and gets you set up
Written by snostorm the 27 Oct 09 at 13:16.
Have a first launch wizard that explains what Ubuntu One is, then gets your login credentials or creates an account for you. This would solve the problem and eliminate the need for the webpage.

There's no way to download a folder from Ubuntu One
Written by Shnatsel the 22 Sep 10 at 21:05. Global category: Others. New
I've got my new icon theme stored in Ubuntu One. I went to a friend of mine and want to show it to him. And though the files are available, I can't get them.
In the web interface I need to download 1000 files from lots of subfolders one by one. Not an option even with a batch downloader.
If I open a guest session with Ubuntu One client, I'll have to load all my 40 Gb data to get my icon theme. Not an option because it will take 11 hours even with a 100 Mbit Internet.

Easiest way to upload my music to ubuntu one
Written by victormmello the 16 Dec 12 at 05:50. Related project: Ubuntu One Music Store. New
If you can't upload your whole music library to ubuntu one, using the music stream can be a little annoying (the upload part)

To solve this i thing the best way is to make a sync playlist plugin to rhythmbox and banshee that works the same way as a normal sync playlist, but this one will upload tho the cloud when sync.

Ubuntu one, sofware center, music store are separated
Written by Janos the 26 Jun 10 at 20:59. Global category: Usability. New
In current version of ubuntu, services are separated, and hard to find for a new user. Ubuntu software center, ubuntu one setup, and music store, can be located in different places. I find ubuntu one setup menu very difficult to find, and there is no reason to access it from the me menu.
These are the features, what makes ubuntu special, and gives the experience of a complete system, what is easy perspicuous.

Solution #1: Ubuntu Center
Written by Janos the 26 Jun 10 at 20:59.
My idea is to unite and extend ubuntu software center with ubuntu one, featuring ubuntu one music store, bookmark sync, synced files viewer, ubuntu one settings manager, application sync manager. Add book and movie downloads to ubuntu one, and you can also include canonical store.
On the main window you can choose between software installation, music, video, book download, you can watch your dashboard and files in ubuntu one, and setup your ubuntu one sync profile. On setup page, the user can add the log in information, so the ubuntu center can log automatically every time, he wants to use the online features, such as music, book download, software, bookmark, contact, notes, file syncing.
Also expand the free space from 2GB to 5GB or give a cheaper 10GB or 20GB pay plan, because 2 GB is too small, but 10 dollars monthly for 50GB I barely can use, is too much.

Solution #2: As Solution 1, but also add features to fund and promote free content
Written by Kasoroth the 2 Oct 10 at 22:01.
This solution would expand on the unification of the Music Store and Software Center described in solution 1.

The concept is similar to the funding model used by Kickstarter, with the difference being that all content produced would be made available under a Creative Commons or open source license (depending on the type of content produced).

Open source development has worked well for software that has a long useful lifespan and benefits from continuous improvement (office productivity software, operating systems, image editing tools, etc). Books, movies, and music are generally meant to be experienced in completed form rather than continuously changed and improved after publication. Some types of software (such as story-based role-playing games) have more in common with books or movies than with image editors or operating systems, and have been traditionally underrepresented in open source software.

A funding model similar to Kickstarter, combined with a very community oriented web site that could organize projects by genre and provide discussion forums, as well as easy accessibility through a combined Software Center/Music Store/Free Media Center interface, could help provide a viable business model for free content production.

Also, to encourage donations and raise awareness of the funding model, some portion of the subscription fees of paid Ubuntu One subscribers could be put in a donation fund for that user. For example, if $2 out of the $10 monthly fee was placed in a fund that the user could use to donate to projects of their choice (but could not be used for anything else) it would encourage donations by paid subscribers because these would have no additional cost to the user. It might also convince some free users to become paid subscribers. The long term benefits of successfully establishing this business model might be far greater than the loss of $2 per month from paid subscribers.
