Solution #1: Add a Microfon Detector
Written by AdlerHorst the 12 Jul 10 at 21:51.
Take the speaker and send a specific sound to all of them that a Microfon could record and search in the soundcard the specific sound. If you found it you had the microfon.

Otherway you could detect every connected Speaker and with the right signal you get the type of speaker and set the right settings.

With User feedback you could detect also headphones.

Several login sounds
Written by Silver Doe the 23 Oct 09 at 14:00. Global category: Look and Feel. New
An option to create a playlist of sounds instead of just one. When you log in or log out, a random sound from the playlist would be played.
This can be not for log in and log out only.

Favorite speaker configurations in sound applet
Written by hotshot977 the 15 Nov 10 at 17:37. Related project: Gnome. New
I have a 5.1 speaker setup for my computer. I frequently have to use headphones. I'd like a quicker way to switch the speaker configuration in Sound Preferences when going from Analog 5.1 to Analog Stereo

Solution #1: Add favorite configurations to the sound applet
Written by hotshot977 the 15 Nov 10 at 17:37.
In sound preferences, with the sound applet on, any device/profile combination could be marked as a favorite. It could then be selected directly from the applet menu. This would be similar to OS X's quick menu for display resolutions, but would be more like a favorites menu than a history menu.

Focus on sound of an application
Written by supercheetah the 29 Apr 10 at 05:52. Global category: Multimedia. New
Unlike many people, I actually like Pulseaudio, and the power it can give.

One thing that I feel like it should be able to do is to allow me to focus on one particular application, and not worry about sounds from other applications (including systems with volume that cannot be individually controlled). I want to be able to hear primarily the sounds from the application I'm interested in at that time.

Solution #1: Amplify the sound of the application with Pulseaudio
Written by supercheetah the 29 Apr 10 at 05:52.
Take the sound of one application, and allow the volume sliders for it to go to 150% so that sounds from that application can be higher than other applications.

Solution #2: Set the default sound volume to half in Pulseaudio
Written by supercheetah the 29 Apr 10 at 05:54.
Have the default volume for all applications be set to half, and that would allow people to set the volume of the application their interested in to be higher.

Solve remote sound&printer issues; see supposingly solved idea #106
Written by heinz23 the 15 Oct 08 at 15:59. Related project: Vinagre Remote Desktop Viewer. New
This is a copy of my post on idea #106: Easy and powerfull Remote-Deskop so this issue gets noticed. Thank you for your attention and help making Ubuntu even more usable!

Sorry if I read over the solution but I just don't see how this idea has actually been solved. I still see the sound/printer/etc issues and ease of use missing. "Developers comment" only suggests solutions that -- do my knowledge -- don't adress these issues!

How about making XDMCP accessible much more easily and extend it with artsd as technosaurus pointed out? Also I suppose everyone would agree on an option to enforce encryption/ssh just like gnomes vnc (remote desktop) preferences.

Evenmore I would welcome a solution where I'd have a second gdm on a separate tty so I could switch to the remote desktop by pressing e.g. Alt+Ctrl+F6 and sit right infront of the remote monitor -- only that I don't -- plus use everything I have right at my hands, i.e. local USB devices, speakers, ... I'd suggest to go all the way and have some init script similar to /etc/init.d/gdm (this, of course, could then easily be called from any GUI). Everything in dayly use would be completely transparent and no different from local GDM.

Universal audio format
Written by Nocebo the 21 Dec 08 at 09:51. Global category: Accessibility. New
This is mostly a forwarding of this blogpost I found through Digg. Link:

http://www.matusiak.eu/numerodix/blog/index.php/2008/12/19/linux-audio-confusin g-as-ever/

Maybe there should be a collaboration in the linux world to bring forward a universal audio format that also work on all plattforms? Right now there seem to be a jungle out there.
