Dictionary function in the Dash.
Written by marsgorski the 7 May 12 at 05:55. Related project: Dictionary (gnome). New
It would be very convenient to have something like a "dictionary lens" in the dash for quick reference.

Install all applications at once in Ubuntu Software Center
Written by Celio Alves the 14 Apr 12 at 18:17. Related project: Ubuntu Software Center. New
Currently, we have to install software by clicking the "Install" button on each one.
Would not it be more practical to select and install them all at once?

Solution #1: Checkbox "Select to Install" on each application
Written by Celio Alves the 14 Apr 12 at 18:17.
My suggestion is for each software, in addition to the "Install" button, had a checkbox called "Select to Install", just as there is in Synaptic (except for paid software).
By clicking the "Install" button, only that software would be installed (as currently).
By checking the box "Select to install" an application, a button fixed on the top called "Install All Selected Softwares" would be available for use.
When clicked, all selected softwares could be installed.
After clicking in the "Install All Selected Softwares" button, a window appears showing the programs and the amount of MB to be downloaded (like a Synaptic).
By accepting, will download everything as if it were a single package, leaving USC free to choose another software or a set of them.

Solution #3: add in the menu a checkbox "download without install"
Written by bmoez the 6 May 12 at 18:00.
if the checkbox "download without install" is active, the "install" botton off all apps become "download". so, USC download the necessary paquets when user click "download" of any app without installing. and to install them, user should click "install now" in the ~"applications to install" tab which become available once the user choise the first app. (i think this is available in deepin-software-center)
=> as installing paquets consume memory and CPU not downloading them, so USC should download them without install (as an option) to avoid wasting time

Ability to right-click options in a program's menu: keep the menu open in use.
Written by turbolad the 6 Dec 11 at 23:54. Global category: Usability. New
When a program has options in a menu and you select that option by left-clicking, the menu closes immediately (this is NOT a bug, it's normal). As an example: if a game has difficulty settings in one of its menus e.g. the 'KSnake' game has options ranging from "Very Easy" to "Very Hard", you left-click on the option in the menu and because the menu closes immediately, you must re-open that menu to verify your selection - or open the menu again if you want to choose a different setting. This is annoying - even more so when the options are in a sub-menu.

Consider that if the menu could be kept open and you can change the settings without the menu closing each time, that would make life easier. :)

Solution #1: Optional right-click in menus to keep menus open.
Written by turbolad the 6 Dec 11 at 23:54.
If you can (optionally) right-click menu options, the menu could stay open so you can verify your selection(s) or change your mind - without having to open the menu again.

The left-click option already exists to select a menu option and then close the menu immediately, so why not use the right-click option to keep the menu open? When the user has chosen their selection(s) with the right mouse button, left-clicking anywhere away from the menu will close it (or you could add a "close" option at the bottom of every menu?).

This idea was added to RISC OS years ago (does anyone remember the old "Acorn computers"?). Click the link and read item number 5 on that list and see why this right-click option does work for real:

Multi-parameter sort for a more refined sorting of files in Nautilus
Written by hm32005 the 27 Feb 12 at 02:08. Related project: Nautilus. New
Certain situations demand a second or even a third property (such as size) sort on files after they've been sorted by one property (such as name).

Solution #1: Provision a sort order where sort parameters can be selected
Written by hm32005 the 27 Feb 12 at 02:08.
A sort order could be provided. For ex: name, size, date.

If 2 files have the same name, they would be arranged by their sizes and if those 2 files have the same name and size, they would be arranged by date.

Sample screen :

Optional Selected for sorting (in order)

Owner Name asc
Type -> Size desc
Width

Solution #2: Multiple sortings
Written by T3STY the 26 Mar 12 at 23:28.
Why not choosing multiple sortings? Being able to select to sort by name and size at the same time, or even more choices.
I know this concept it's a bit tricky when, for example, you first select to sort by name then as secondary sorting by size. In this case you could consider only the first letter (A, B C... ) and for each letter sort items to fit the secondary sorting (by size).

unity dashboard "launcher" should be moveable
Written by mr clark25 the 22 Mar 12 at 01:16. Related project: Unity. New
simply put, i like the placement of the dashboard launcher in ubuntu 11.04 much better than 11.10 because it takes up a lot less screen space. i like it being nicely hidden and integrated into the top panel.

the dashboard launcher in ubuntu 11.10 takes longer to get to, in most cases. it also takes up more screen space, which is very valuable to most people.

Solution #1: option to move the dashboard launcher from the left panel to the top panel
Written by mr clark25 the 22 Mar 12 at 01:16.
An option to move the dashboard launcher to the top panel in the System Settings somewhere.

this would make the dashboard launcher look like it did in ubuntu 11.04.

What about moving it to the right? the bottom of the screen?

Let's just allow it to be moved anywhere.

Ubuntu should be able to automatically stream audio from wireless devices
Written by starleaf1 the 26 Apr 12 at 17:50. Global category: Multimedia. New
I believe there are a good number of users who want to stream music or other audio from their bluetooth (or other wireless) devices and play it on their computers' speakers. In operating systems with Pulse Audio, this can be done by loading the module-loopback. There's no way of doing so that I know of, other than manually via command-line. This is impractical for casual users. To make matters worse, forgetting to unload this module before disconnecting will result in it hooking any other input device it can find. If it hooks a microphone that's located near the speaker, this can cause a feedback.

Solution #1: PulseAudio should automatically load/unload module-loopback
Written by starleaf1 the 26 Apr 12 at 17:50.
I propose an idea that when a wireless audio source is connected, PulseAudio automatically designates the device as the input device, then load the module-loopback. The module should also be automatically unloaded when user disconnects the device or choose another audio input device manually.

Solution #2: Add an option for the user to manually pipe audio from input to output
Written by starleaf1 the 28 Apr 12 at 06:22.
There could also be an option (may be a checkbox or a button) in the sound settings called 'Listen to this input'. If user clicks/enable it, the audio will be piped from input to output. Disable it, and the piping stops.

When no types of sorting seems to fit
Written by eklem the 13 Mar 12 at 13:50. Related project: Nautilus. New
Often, I would very much like a combination of sort-types. Sometimes, "alphabetic" fits me well, but I still want the new work-folder to be on top, or the "date"-sorting works well for a couple of folders, but is hell to look through to find an old folder.

I would like a bit more finesse to the sort-options to fit my needs better.

Solution #1: Combine sort-method with pinned folders and files
Written by eklem the 13 Mar 12 at 13:50.
It works quite well for forums (which mimics folders and files), why shouldn't it work for

Right click on a file/folder and pin/unpin it. It will change look to default file/folder icon w/pin when pinned, and end up on top, and maybe have a slightly different background color. The internal sorting of pinned items will follow standard sorting.

Then I can have a alphabetically sorted list with a folder or two, that I need more often, on top.

Automatic connect to Bluetooth audio device and set as default audio output.
Written by wlenaerts the 26 Apr 12 at 09:38. Global category: Usability. New
It is becoming more and more popular to send audio to one’s speakers using a Bluetooth audio receiver. However currently on every reboot one has to reconnect the Bluetooth audio device and set the audio device as primary audio output manually or one has to make a startup script. In my opinion this is something that has to work natively if we desire to bring Ubuntu to a higher level.

Solution #1: Auto connect option
Written by wlenaerts the 26 Apr 12 at 09:38.
Create a Bluetooth option in which one can set a Bluetooth device to connect automatically on system startup. Also include the option to set this Bluetooth audio device as default audio output.

Solution #1: compact nautilus properties window

i think a more compact properties would benefit Ubuntu and look more slick. i also ask how to fix/tweak this in askubuntu(http://askubuntu.com/questions/110208/resize-nautilus-properties-wind ows) but i still haven't gotten any answers or comments :(

Solution #2: tab "Notes" should be appended to tab "General"
Written by oliver-joos the 16 Mar 12 at 02:14.
The tab for "Notes" should be moved to the first tab "General". Notes are rarely used anyway and a smaller textarea should be ok for most people. Without the Tab "Notes" it would be possible to reduce the window minimum width slightly.

The height should not be reduced if this would force to add a vertical scrollbar in certain tabs, e.g. in tab "Permissions".
