Solution #1: Add a "take photo now" option
Written by gregbenson314 the 21 Feb 11 at 22:03.
When you go to change the user account picture (system--> Preferences--> about me) and click to change the icon, a nautilus file browser pops up, and allows you to choose a picture.

I think it would be good to have a "Take a picture now" option, that uses the webcam to take a picture. If the user likes it, it could be used as the account picture. If the user doesn't like it, another picture could be taken (discarding all previous attempts) until the user is happy. They could cancel at any time.

Realtime reflection in Compiz utilizing a webcam
Written by goodguy20k the 9 Jan 09 at 20:43. Related project: Compiz. New
Ok, so most laptops these days, even some desktop LCD, are coming with built-in webcams. They're not great, but they capture an image.

What if we could take that video stream and apply it to the live window decoration applications. I'm basically talking about taking the relfex plug-in ( http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Plugins/Reflex ) for Compiz and implementing an option to take the reflection image from your webcam.

It's a mostly pointless idea, but it's eyecandy, it's cool, and it combines two areas of which software seems to be heading: advanced user interaction/interface and shiny, reflective user interfaces.

It's an idea.

Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #17157 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

Solution #2: Desktop mirror
Written by cousteau the 16 May 09 at 02:09.
The desktop wallpaper could become a mirror on a similar way.

Or even better, render the webcam reflection on the alpha channel of the background image.
