per-user timezones
Written by dinar the 1 Nov 10 at 14:25. Global category: Usability. New
somebody would want to use other timezone in his personal OS account. i mean timezone other than timezone used officially in the location where the user and the OS "live" and that is really used.
why somebody would want to see other time? :
maybe when clock is changed +-1 because of DST and the person wants not to switch, but wants to see clock as it was.
maybe that he has come to this OS recently from his permanent residence, and he has come not for long time, and he wants to feel time of his home. and maybe that he his home is not far away, just several kilometers, but he comes to workplace to another timezone, and he wants to use same clock at his home and work.
add at 2010-11-2 20:38 utc+3 : and may be remote users that use OS as hosting, and they want to use their timezone. (though, i am not sure, maybe, that feature is already built in ssh or like that, i do not have experience).

Solution #1: per-user timezones
Written by dinar the 1 Nov 10 at 14:25.
make possible to make different/configurable timezone through user accounts. this is possible to implement/program/develop if/for case UTC timezone is used to mark filetimes and this is possible if windows is used on same machine, because windows also can be configured to mark filetimes with UTC timezone time. this means UTC time is only written phisically and OS converts it to user timezone when user looks at file time.

Solution #1: Show sunset and sunrise while off line
Written by Rodrigo the 28 Apr 10 at 16:08.
The information about the sunset and sunrise could be visible even while off line.
That way you could have more info even if you are traveling and you are not connected.
I think is a very useful info specially if you like to run or want to wake up "with the sun"

Solution #2: download info for 48 hours
Written by spaik the 8 May 10 at 20:53.
it should be able to download and save the info for 48 hours. its easy to get weather info for even more than that. it should also show some how that its off-line data and it can change any time.

the sunset and sunrise could be calculated easily at least for the saved countries. like it calculate it when you pick the countries and have an Internet connection at this point.

Easier way to change starting day in Gnome Clock
Written by Rodrigo the 26 Apr 10 at 11:03. Related project: Gnome. New
Right now it is very easy to change the starting day in Evolution. (edit - preferences - Calendars and tasks - work week starts on:)

From ubuntu

It would be nice it there was an option to change it too in the gnome clock, as easy, and not having to change the "locales".

I don't use Evolution, I use Thunderbird. So add a preference to Gnome Clock, and make Evolution follow that.

World Map in Clock Applet sans the Locations
Written by Navneeth the 17 Apr 10 at 11:54. Related project: Gnome. New
The Clock Applet in the Gnome Panel is used to display the locations of the cities (as red dots) when one chooses them from a list or supplies their co-ordinates, but when the user only wants a time-zone (EST, GMT, etc.) the world map appears without any of the (reference) locations and is simply a blue-and-white box needlessly occupying space.

Please take a look at this picture to see what I'm referring to: http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/9589/worldmapx.png

Solution #1: Option to Hide the Map
Written by Navneeth the 17 Apr 10 at 11:54.
Hide the map (while keeping the analogue clocks intact) or provide the users an option to do so, so that the applet looks more compact.

Solution #3: Place the Dots on the Reference Locations
Written by Navneeth the 17 Apr 10 at 14:01.
Display the reference locations on the map (e.g., the Preferences dialog shows New York (City) for ES/DT, Chicago for CS/DT and Los Angeles for PS/DT.)

Need google integration directly with gnome clock
Written by CydeSwype the 4 Jan 10 at 20:49. Related project: Gnome. New
The gnome clock is a great tool for quickly checking your calendar dates and upcoming events. It works with evolution to display calendars, and evolution can import events from google calendar (and other sources). However, many people prefer to use Thunderbird or Gmail as their default application and Evolution is heavy, memory leaky and generally not everyone's favorite application.

We need to keep the usefulness of gnome clock without the dependency of evolution.

Solution #1: Create alternative, standalone settings tool for gnome clock
Written by CydeSwype the 4 Jan 10 at 20:49.
Rather than relying on evolution-data-server for google and other calendar data, create a standalone application for setting relationships to other iCal calendars that can then be displayed in gnome clock.

Solution #2: Better Evolution integration with Google Calendar
Written by blazemore the 7 Jan 10 at 11:22.
The calendar should still read from Evolution, but Evolution should provide 2-way synchronisation with Google Calendar.

Solution #3: create API
Written by clonejo the 22 Jan 10 at 21:44.
Create an API to which other programs can connect to, like Thunderbird (using an addon), Evolution or anything else. This way it would be more flexible.

Implement Milliseconds and Microseconds options in Clock
Written by isaacthulhu the 12 Jul 09 at 14:25. Global category: Quality. New
Simple Description:
The addition of live display Milliseconds and Microseconds to "Clock" or desktop clock which appears in the tool-bar.

Argument for:

The addition of Milliseconds and Microseconds Contributes to an overall working environment with a feel of precision while providing the user with a more fluid, realistic and exciting experience of the simple passage of time.

The new proposed and optional display of units would appear:

H(12 or 24):M:S:MLS(optional):MIS(optional)

It is very difficult to determine the total potential need for this addition to the existing clock options, however this in no way precludes the potential that it's inclusion brings with it.

I would like more features on the clock and weather applet
Written by baldurpet the 28 Jan 09 at 17:06. Global category: Look and Feel. New
The clock and the weather applet is one of the few things in a computer that change frequently so I'd like to see some new additions.

This way people could always see some new things when checking the weather, or the time.

Solution #1: To add pictures to the weather applet
Written by baldurpet the 28 Jan 09 at 17:06.
Checking the weather in distant cities using the weather applet is a sort of hobby of mine, because it allows me to envision how other places are right now; with sunshine, snowing, rain etc.

That's why I would like a photo of the selected location/locations (updated every minute or so) so you could see how it looks. I'm not sure if this would be smart or even possible, but it's a fair idea (at least for some of the bigger cities).

There must be FOSS users in most places willing and able to set up a webcam (if there isn't one already), which would stream directly to the Internet.

Solution #2: To add a possibility of a sliding time zone
Written by baldurpet the 28 Jan 09 at 17:17.
I sometimes need to find out where in the world it is e.g. 5 o'clock, and this could be made really easy and fun by adding a "sliding time zone" feature to the clock.

That way you could click on the current time zone and drag it across the globe; changing the clock.

It isn't a complicated addition but it would be rather fun; a possible way of doing this would be to add another tentative clock next to or below the world map with the label "17:16, GMT (+0)" or "02:16, JST (+9)" depending on the position.

Solution #3: Add pictures of each place
Written by baldurpet the 28 Jan 09 at 17:23.
Why aren't there pictures of each place on earth?
There are tons of CC pictures on Wikipedia and Commons, which could be used with the clock.

Just imagine, cycling through a list of countries when choosing where you live and getting a picture of each town or country. The pictures could even be a small and simple slide show.

Solution #4: Add link to Forecast
Written by kayvee the 27 Feb 09 at 14:04.
Put a butoon or link on the tooltip that would take you to weather.com (or accuweather or whereever Ubuntu is getting the weather info from) website and display forecast.
See a mockup: http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshote.png
Having a button instead of link in the tool tip and when clicked, displaying forecast in a small dialog box with tabs for 'Hour by Hour', 'Next two days', 'Weekend' and '10 day forecast' would be an even more elegant solution... but I guess 'link' would be an easier way with minimal disruption of current situation.

Solution #5: When mouse over it, show forecast
Written by Rodrigo the 14 Mar 09 at 14:40.
Instead of having to press something, like solution #4, maybe when you hoover your mouse over it, it shows icons for the next few days. just like:
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USFL0316?from=36hr_topnav_undeclared
could it be posible?

Solution #8: Stocks quotes
Written by Rodrigo the 21 Apr 09 at 21:14.
Why not have info like stock quotes, I know is over the scope of the clock applet by why have another when the clock is always there, or maybe something more "static" like currency exchange.
For people that travel or that do business over the internet could be useful.

Calender should start with Monday
Written by kushalsejwal the 17 Dec 08 at 22:49. Global category: Others. New
The default calender which appears when clock applet is clicked, starts with Sunday. I want the calender to show weeks starting with Monday.

Therefore there should a option to choose the calender format in the preferences.
