Create Subcategories in the Sound & Video Category in Ubuntu Software Center
Written by benpiller the 16 Sep 12 at 11:35. Related project: Ubuntu Software Center. New
In the Software Center there is the Sound & Video Category. If people want to install for example a Spectrum analyzer or a Digital Audio Workstation or a Mp3 TAG editor (there is so many examples) then it takes an extra time to go through the whole list and find the appropriate Software. Under the Science and Engineering Category there is a lot of subcategories. Ubuntu is really an optional solution for musicians, but this issue is a little bit annoying!

Solution #1: Create different subcategories
Written by benpiller the 16 Sep 12 at 11:35.
The Idea is to create more subcategories which are the following:

-Media Players (Music Players and video players)
The place for every kind of player, backends and Media center

-Video editors and tools
The place where every audio editor and their tools should be.

-Audio Editors and tools (DAWs, effects, score writers, converters, etc.)
This is the musicians' corner. The apps with audio modification ability should be here. This is also a good place for Audio converters, Mp3 TAG editors etc.

-System tools
In this subcategory people can find drivers, codecs and volume controls and everything what is connected with the system sound/video!

Construção de aplicativos próprios
Written by Bezzy the 18 Jul 12 at 13:51. Related project: Unity. New
"Since the big manufacturers of operating systems typically manufacture their own applications, because the Canonical wouldn't do the same?

Thinking about it, I decided to create a concept of what I named Unity Player.

*******************************************

Visto que as grandes fabricantes de Sistemas Operacionais geralmente produzem seus aplicativos também, pensem em propor para que a Canonical comece a produzir seus aplicativos e softwares, baseado no software livre e baseado na interface unity.

Solution #1: Unity Player
Written by Bezzy the 18 Jul 12 at 13:51.
A player that can be both compact and expanded, and can be called by the sound icon Panel.

To expand just click the library icon, and to collect, just click again.

The player fully integrates to unity interface and looks very modern. "

*******************************************

Como simples conceito de design, propus a construção do que batizei como Unity Player.

Um player que pode ser chamado a partir do applet de som e possui dois modos.

1- Modo compacto [primeira acima]
2- Modo expandido [segunda abaixo]

Para expandir para o modo 2, é necessário que clique no ícone da biblioteca, e para compactar é necessário que desmarque a opção, clicando novamente no ícone de biblioteca.

As pesquisas também suportam filtros, assim como nas lentes do unity.

Solution #2: Create just a new mail reader and a new UI for Totem
Written by fernando_silva the 19 Jul 12 at 02:10.
Create a new music player is not necessary, we need a new mail reader integrated to the system and a better UI for Totem or a fronted to mplayer in replacement of Totem like Audience of Elementary OS: http://www.bestubuntu.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/b6d9d__audience-watch.jpg and this http://www.bestubuntu.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/b6d9d__audience-load.png

[Edit]
Uma modificação do totem seria aceitável, deixando-o como no link abaixo

Solution #3: Expand applications integration to the Unity interface
Written by gustavokrm the 27 Jul 12 at 16:29.
Instead of creating a whole new music player and mail reader just for Unity, we should just try to make Rhythmbox integrate more on the Interface.

For example, the top panel being solid when it is not in use and then translucid just like in the mockup when a menu is used. Then, when the menu is opened, the user has full control of the music player: change songs, playlist, love/hate on last.fm, etc.

The message menu should also allow the user to quickly see if new e-mails arrived without the need to open the application and to make quick replies to empathy.

The idea proposed was nice, but I think we should stick to the default applications and offer an easy way for third apps to also integrate more to the Unity ecosystem.

Increase Sound Menu functionality: song progress slider
Written by Lionthinker the 29 Jan 12 at 18:44. Related project: Banshee Music Player. New
The sound menu at the top right only has volume control.

I listen to a lot of podcasts and need to repeat sections.
Also it would be nice to repeat parts of songs without having to open the music player.

Pulseaudio sinks should be easier to access
Written by Scarleo the 24 Nov 11 at 19:09. Global category: Usability. New
I use remote pulseaudio sinks a lot, and I have a few to choose from, to be able to play my music in whatever room I like. I think a lot of people do the same thing. To switch to a remote server today I have to click sound icon, choose sound settings, wait for it to load, then go to output and select my sink. It's way to long way to go for such an easy and regularly performed task.

Solution #1: Include available remote sinks in sound drop down menu
Written by Scarleo the 24 Nov 11 at 19:09.
Somehow integrate the content from Sound Settings output tab in the sound dropdown IF there is more than one sink detected. Users who are not aware of the function to play audio on a remote server might not want this option visible in the menu. This would give a lot faster and more natural handling of the switch between sinks.

Solution #2: Provide the settings for PulseAudio from paprefs in the Sound Settings panel
Written by lightrush the 11 Dec 11 at 21:19.
The remote sinks appear automatically in the Sound Settings as long as "Make discoverable PulseAudio devices available locally" is selected in paprefs. Therefore the solution should be to simply make those options more accessible.

Don't make the user have to install paprefs. Instead put the same configuration options or at least the Network Access ones in Sound Settings directly. This way the function will be more obvious to a user that is unaware of this functionality.

The network access feature of PulseAudio is a feature that can truly stand out and make Ubuntu stand apart from it's competitors:

Ubuntu user: "Hey, did you know that I can play music to any computer at home from any other just by selecting it in the Sound Settings?"

Sound Menu should add more functionality with Banshee/RhythmBox
Written by mystro256 the 6 Mar 11 at 22:17. Related project: Banshee Music Player. New
Since the interface with Banshee/Rhythmbox have been put completely in the sound menu for Natty/Maverick, it lacks functionality that was in the original notification icon, such as seeking through a song and closing the player without using "file > quit"

Solution #1: Add the ability to seek and close
Written by mystro256 the 6 Mar 11 at 22:17.
The sound menu should add the ability to seek or fast-forward/rewind, such as the hover-over-notification-icon function banshee had (I'm not sure if Rhythmbox had it because I never used it), along with an option to close the player (such as an X beside the name of the player or text option below the album art)

Solution #2: Just a close option
Written by mystro256 the 7 Mar 11 at 20:40.
option to close the player, such as an X beside the name of the player or text option below the album art. One may want to close the media player so it doesn't take up resources, but would find it much more convenient to just have the close in the sound menu.

Solution #3: Add close button and song progress slider
Written by CorvusS the 29 Apr 11 at 18:14.
In addition to a close option described in solution #2, sound menu should have song progress slider, so one can play his favourite part of song again without having to open player.

Favorite speaker configurations in sound applet
Written by hotshot977 the 15 Nov 10 at 17:37. Related project: Gnome. New
I have a 5.1 speaker setup for my computer. I frequently have to use headphones. I'd like a quicker way to switch the speaker configuration in Sound Preferences when going from Analog 5.1 to Analog Stereo

Solution #1: Add favorite configurations to the sound applet
Written by hotshot977 the 15 Nov 10 at 17:37.
In sound preferences, with the sound applet on, any device/profile combination could be marked as a favorite. It could then be selected directly from the applet menu. This would be similar to OS X's quick menu for display resolutions, but would be more like a favorites menu than a history menu.

The Microfon ist some times a problem
Written by AdlerHorst the 12 Jul 10 at 21:51. Global category: Accessibility. New
A lot of time it is a problem to detect the mic and configure it for using it.

Solution #1: Add a Microfon Detector
Written by AdlerHorst the 12 Jul 10 at 21:51.
Take the speaker and send a specific sound to all of them that a Microfon could record and search in the soundcard the specific sound. If you found it you had the microfon.

Otherway you could detect every connected Speaker and with the right signal you get the type of speaker and set the right settings.

With User feedback you could detect also headphones.

add audio DSP effects to Sound Preferences
Written by surfraz the 16 Jun 10 at 11:58. Related project: Gnome. New
It would be nice to have an additional tab in Sound Preferences that allows the enabling of audio effects to all sound output.

E.g. Echo, Reverb, Extra Stereo Spatial, Crystaliser (as used in the Audacious player), maybe even some LADSPA plugins

Or even equaliser presets like: Large Hall, Sewer, Metal Box

Would be a nice "wow" feature and would add something to Ubuntu that new/existing users would appreciate.

3D-Sound for notification-sounds
Written by elypter the 27 May 10 at 22:37. Global category: Usability. New
Let notification-sounds use Surround/stereo sound to help the user finding the source where something happened.
That can be helpful for multiple virtual desktops and multiple monitors

Solution #1: Add an option in the Sound Prefrences Window
Written by elypter the 27 May 10 at 22:37.
This could be added as a simple checkbox option in the sound prefrences window.

More usable volume slider
Written by chengas123 the 2 May 10 at 16:27. Related project: Gnome. New
You have to click to get the volume slider to appear, then adjust it, then click again to close the window. This is a poor user experience when compared to well-designed volume sliders like the ones on Youtube and Hulu.

Solution #1: Make the volume slider appear when hovering over it
Written by chengas123 the 2 May 10 at 16:27.
Go to Youtube. Hover over the volume slider and notice how it appears smoothly with no clicking. This is a far, far more usable control. It's clear that extensive usability testing has gone into the Youtube volume slider. It would be great to see similar improvements made in Gnome.

Solution #2: Use a mouse with wheel
Written by mandavi the 10 May 10 at 12:02.
My guess is, that 90% of all users control their pc with the help of a mouse with wheel. If so, place your mouse at the speaker symbol and scroll the wheel. As simple as that. And keep consistency to control methods of ubuntu - don't give special treatment to only the sound control.
