Partner with mouse / keyboard manufacturers
Written by Stalker72 the 6 Dec 08 at 23:28. Global category: Hardware support. New
It would be great if Canonical could partner with, for example, Razer, Roccat and SteelSeries. As a gamer, I miss mouse and keyboard drivers for Linux.

Ubuntu Branded VoIP service - TeleComms Promotion & Services
Written by Tree MendUs the 18 Jun 08 at 00:41. Global category: Marketing. New
There are some VOIP systems that work well on Ubuntu.
So why not use them "for" Ubuntu ?!

There is some "shopping around" to find ones that work well, and which services are either free or reliable.

Ubuntu is in a position to provided a trusted service to its users.

The telecomms and media industries are full of sources of additional revenue - advertising, partnerships, hardware re-selling, professional (pay for) upgrade packages, etc.

Ubuntu would benefit from being able to establish voice comms between project members both for Ubuntu OS and fro programs.

Users might be able to use it for their desktop VOIP systems (e.g. Ekiga). The service could be ready to run soon after OS installation.

Old PCs could get re-used as email, browser, and VOIP terminals.

Ubuntu enters marketplace with opportunities to make "some" profit, promote the brand, showcase capabilities and user environment.

A separate or subsidiary entity could be created to run the operation.

A server network could be set up around the world. Local users could voluntarily provide bandwidth and/or hardware to initiate a local service - removing expansion costs from Ubuntu.

Very easy to be an alternative to skype.

Local servers could link into the local phone system, though this service may need to generate revenue to cover costs.

Partner with FSF
Written by Eldmannen the 22 Mar 08 at 19:21. Global category: Others. New
Ubuntu is a free software operating system that consists entirely of free software.

Ubuntu comes with many GNU software by the Free Software Foundation (FSF).

The FSF created the GNU project, the FSF created the GPL license. Richard Stallman started the whole free software movement by founding the FSF.

FSF promotes free software that can be used, studied, and modified without restriction, and which can be copied and redistributed in modified or unmodified form either without restriction, or with minimal restrictions only to ensure that further recipients can also do these things.

I propose we partner with the FSF.

New Technology Hardware support - e.g. huge touch screen.

Touch sensitive LCD wall - very Human Interactive (both hands).

Is Ubuntu interested in projects like this?

If so, here's an idea.
============

Step beyond hardware licensing
of conventional accessories, attachments, devices, etc. (don't drop it - keep it - but build on it)

Consider Partnerships , and
partnerships with new hardware that is totally new - hasn't reached consumer market yet.

Whether its providing a software platform, assisting with drivers, interfacing, advanced applications programs for end users, or
drumming up some sponsorship, advertising to Ubuntu users for donations (or any other form of support) - there are bound to be some ways to get involved.

This might involve teaming up with Debian and its other variants.

Solicit approaches from (potential) hardware manufacturers on the Ubuntu web site. They maybe inventors, new startups, or established manufacturers with a new product line.
Ubuntu could "Help" new products come into the world.

The "attitude" of Ubuntu may be an advantage in this activity.

Help out and partner with ISVs
Written by Eldmannen the 28 Apr 08 at 18:24. Global category: Others. New
We need to help out ISV (independent software vendors).
This will result in growing our software ecosphere and making Linux a more appealing choice for developers and users.

We can do this by partnerships, and providing APIs, hooks, tool support, design reviews, strategies, timelines, etc.

Partner with EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation).
EFF does the same.

Therefor it would be great if they could partner.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is an international non-profit advocacy and legal organization with the stated purpose of being dedicated to preserving free speech rights in the context of today's digital age.
