Written by venky80 the 16 Oct 09 at 21:39. New
Currently Kopete doesnt support voice or video with jabber or gmail chat. Please bring it to feature parity with Empathy messenger

Gitso-like functionality in Kopete (one click vnc support)
Written by xapient the 14 Jan 09 at 13:53. New
Google Gitso does reverse VNC, so the supporter has to deal with NAT and Firewall, not the person who needs help..
http://code.google.com/p/gitso/
It uses x11vnc and vncviewer!
I propose to develop a plugin for kopete that does the same thing.

You would have to click on a nickname and say "give support" and the other person clicks on your nickname and says "get support" thats it.

its easy.. just one line of code on every side, accessable over kopetes gui:

Solution #1: use vncviewer and x11vnc
Written by xapient the 14 Jan 09 at 13:53.
do exactly the same thing googles "gitso" does, but integrate it into the GUI of kopete as plugin.. (and provide the ip address to the person that needs the support so that he doesn't have to deal with it)

on the supporters side it would be one line to execute
(vncviewer -listen -compresslevel 5 -quality 5)

Solution #2: Well not a solution...
Written by walterav the 16 May 09 at 20:30.
Incorporate a "Reverse VNC option" in the already available vnc screen sharing in ubuntu. Indeed what other people say it can be done with x11vnc and xtightvncviewer. But it would be a lot better when its there...

Right now in a ubuntu UNFRIENDLY way:
terminal
sudo -s
apt-get update
apt-get install x11vnc
x11vnc -connet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx::port

goodluck

update: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/20187/
I made a new 'idea' for this, instead of a extra solution to this current idea.
This is because I don't need the use of a IM client, like kopete/pigeon, so I thought it is more usefull the add a extra one.

Webcam support and QQ protocol in the same instant messenger
Written by jens the 4 Aug 08 at 16:41. New
We have quite a lot of possibilities to get our webcams to work (like cheese, VLC, kopete and more). Also, there are quite a lot of instant messengers out there, like aMSN, pidgin, eva. They all support one or more different protocols, only a few of them support QQ, the most popular IM protocol in China (for example eva, pidgin and the new QQ messenger for Linux by Tencent, the inventor of the protocol). Some of them don't have webcam support (for example eva, pidgin and the new QQ messenger for Linux), others do (like kopete ...).
However, I could not find a single working solution to have a webcam chat using QQ protocol. So either use another messenger (and be unable to contact your QQ buddies) or talk to your friends (and be unable to see them). OK, QQ is not very popular outside China, but even if not all of the 1.3 billion Chinese use webcams, I think there are still quite a lot of people interested in this feature.

IM better IM
Written by foxdude the 1 Aug 08 at 15:47. New
I think it would be better to have an IM protocol that has these requirements.

When logging on from a different machine, both machines can be used at the same time for IM. So I could be logged on to an account from 2 places, and the messages would be received both places. So the other clients would have in their IP_to send list both locations.

Also simple encryption available.

File moving available (file size limit options).
Current IM standards should be realized.

Wouldn't that be cool to add to kopote , something that is better?
