Wireless Detection
Written by ActionParsnip the 16 Mar 09 at 17:08. New
How about something not dissimilar to the video driver installation that can learn what chip the wireless device that is installed in the user system and then automatically download and install the required stuffs

I help out a TONNE in #ubuntu and #kubuntu and see users asking how to configure wireless. This sort of thing would make the whole thing easier

Solution #1: Auto install drivers
Written by ActionParsnip the 16 Mar 09 at 17:08.
Have a part of apt-get (or a separate application) run lspci and grep so the wireless chip is learned. Then make the system download a script or package that will give their adapter drivers, be it ndiswrapper or native drivers to be compiled.

Part of the apt suite could then be sectioned of or bundled in to check if there are newer versions of the resources used to generate the driver and re-download / recompile / whatever so that the drivers are always up to date.

Admittedly this requires a wired connection but this is also similar to configuring ndiswrapper / installing extra packages or source for the wireless driver from another system so is completely reasonable to ask of users in my opinion.

This would then ease installation of the wireless devices that are so prevelant in todays home networking.
