There should be a way to disable KDE's desktop effects without System Settings

There should be a way to disable KDE's desktop effects without System Settings.

On some computers some 3d applications don't work properly
while KDE's desktop effects are enabled.

On these computers the user must disabled KDE's
desktop effects before using any 3d applications.

To disable KDE's desktop effects the user must go to
System Settings> Desktop to disable desktop effects.

The time spent opening System Settings and clicking Desktop
could be avoided if there was a way to disable KDE's
desktop effects without going to System Settings, for
example an icon in KDE's system tray which allows
the user to enable and disable desktop effects.

With Compiz Fusion there is an application called
Compiz Fusion icon.

Compiz Fusion icon is an icon in the system tray which
allows the user to enable and disable Compiz Fusion.

There should be something like Compiz Fusion icon for
KDE's desktop effects.

Solution #2: Do absolutely nothing
Written by tmim the 17 Nov 09 at 11:40.
There already exists a key combination to suspend effects. It is 'Alt+Shift+F12'.

GUI or TERMINAL to start with
Written by ramana the 15 Sep 09 at 14:40. Already implemented
some people prefer command line interface(terminal) over GUI
so,when ubuntu is going to be loaded into RAM, please provide an option that prompts the user whether to load GUI or terminal, and the specified option will load the corresponding interface.

Written by ramana the 15 Sep 09 at 14:40.
provide options like you provide for different loaders.
when you select a specific loader it again should display GUI or TERMINAL

Get rid of system tray
Written by Primož Papič the 21 Jan 09 at 23:48. Already implemented
Well in interesting turn of events...
The "catcher" widget is the system tray in KDE4.
And it can hide things you don't want to use so basically this is actually already implemented...

System tray is getting more and more outdated.
KDE in pair with it's plasma idea wants to get rid of it, but can't due to non KDE apps that might still need the tray.
System tray currently dosen't do anything useful.
It's just a place where background programs are represented.
You can interact with some of them through right click, but that's not enough.
Why wouldn't we change "system tray" so it would follow the plasma ideal more closely.

/As you can see I chnaged my rationale to be more (specific, maybe too), but I have no idea what Gnome users want I'm just relaying the theme on KDE forum where it was clearly stated that in long term it's goal to get rid of system tray.

Solution #1: Just forget that this was proposed for Gnome too
Written by Primož Papič the 21 Jan 09 at 23:48.
In pair with new way how ideas on Brainstorm work I decided to make this idea open for other solutions and to be "cross-DE". But I have no idea what Gnome users want and I have no idea if this even is a problem in Gnome;
Judging from votes I guess not.
So those that have Gnome vote on #3 and #4, those that use KDE vote on #2.

Solution #2: Make an "catcher" plasmoid (widget)
Written by Primož Papič the 21 Jan 09 at 23:52.
Make an plasmoid that will "catch" all none KDE apps trying to dock themselves to system tray and transform them in to a widget.
So a widget that will show docked options of non native KDE apps and will act as it's an icon docked in system tray
