Description
Lots of hardware works with Linux, but does not mention that. It often has a Windows logo though and mentions that it works with Windows.

We should work with hardware vendors to get them to put "Works with Linux" or "Linux-compliant" along with a logo on their packaging and marketing materials.

This will increase Linux brand-awareness, mind share, make it easier for us to buy compatible hardware, and make hardware vendors sell more, etc.

I like the idea of a sticker that has above it:
Linux Compatible

And bellow it:
Designed for Ubuntu

With the Ubuntu emblem on it. Get Dell to put them on their Ubuntu Laptops. encourage other distros to make similar stickers.

I like the idea, but this raises a more serious issue with distro's of Linux.

a lot of people aren't even aware Microsoft has competition, Linux needs a bigger media advertisement presence.

Make people aware they have a choice

For complete PCs there is already a logo programme at http://www.ubuntu.com/partners/hardwareprogramme

You can find a long discussion about this item in the comments area of http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/2718/

As pointed out by marvo, there is already a logo programme by Ubuntu.
Now it's up to the hardware manufacturers to contact Ubuntu to get the Ubuntu logo.

I like this idea. I would like it even better if it advertised: "runs with open source drivers (GNU GPL) - Linux ready" or whatever license that's certified by the FSF (or the other organism, can't remember its name).
