Description
ever since NV went opensource it has not made an impact on the ubuntu world. this is a shame..

nv allows for sharing of audio, printers and the ability to pause and resume sessions remotely.

this would be a major plus for a ubuntu desktop system for users with multiple computers. it could also be used as part of the ubuntu server system to enable remote only logins to multiple users similar to ltsp but better.

iv never understood why tightvnc was never used as the default vnc backend as it allows for jpeg compression to a high end and is much faster then any other vnc system avaliable on linux today.

well it was, until nv came out.

the sound sharing could be intergrated into pulse audio for sharing of audio via avahi.. the sessions it self could be broadcast via avahi which will soon (god willing) allow for wan broadasts as well a lan.

the printer sharing can also be set via avahi.

Even wikipedia hasn't heard of NV. I think you must mean FreeNX. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than RDP, but RDP is also very good. And yes, out of the VNC options, TightVNC is probably best.

KDE already has all of these options though, and I think they're improving the NX support for KDE 4. If you want decent features, use a decent desktop environment.

It raises a question though, Is freenx going to be in the Ubuntu repositories for Hardy?

LOL! Eveybody here is going to be confused about this open source "NV" technology which doesn't even appear on the web.

Lee is right, the real name is NX and the open source web page is http://freenx.berlios.de/

I do wish that Ubuntu would support this.
