Idea #17055: native adobe shockwave on linux

Written by slsolaris the 5 Jan 09 at 15:14. Category: Internet & Networking. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
canonical we already do not have shockwave Linux native, we can not actually open web sites that work with this plug-in without using wine, this is bad for many people, please talk to adobe or make an open source alternative.
For example we can not use http://www.habbo.com (Habbo is a virtual world where you can meet and make friends.) and many more games web sites!

Wow. This is a hard one.

On one hand, closed formats = yuck and Shockwave is pretty useless even among closed formats.

But, I like the idea of Adobe reaching out more for Linux like they have been lately. Imagine how crazy awesome a native version of the big Adobe applications like Photoshop would be.

So, I have to go +1 for the long-term dream of getting Adobe to consider Linux as a viable platform.

I'm not sure, but I remember having read somewhere on the internet a long time ago that Adobe had stopped working on Shockwave.

+1. I think that _any_ application is a good thing to have support for, so that poeple have the freedom to choose what to use.

-1: I think we should focus our resources on getting Adobe to support Photoshop on Linux.

I have seriously not come across any site that uses Shockwave in several years. Possibly a decade.

Eldmannen, the only example I could find of a site using shockwave is Miniclip.com. Some of their games use shockwave instead of Flash.

Adobe putting time into making a linux shockwave would take their focus off improving native flash and air which are much more desirable apps/environments for many more people.

Isn't Shockwave kind off dead? I only see a couple of games using it a year.
