Highlight Recently Installed Applications

When a user installs some new apps they might install some 20 or 30 new apps. By the time it finishes installing them and they have closed Add/Remove, they will have forgotten some of the apps. (This happens to me quite frequently). I have found that leaving Add/Remove open is rather inconvenient. We should highlight the most recently installed apps for either one hour or until the next reboot (whichever is shorter). This way the user can find and test out all of their latest apps. Also, I think the behavior should be customizable so that you can reduce the time for highlighting, or if you don't even want this to happen... disable it all together.

I'm confused. I understand your problem and must say sometimes I also find myself searching all around the Apps menu for something I've just installed. It really sounds like a good idea, but one thing holds me back: on Windows XP this feature really annoys me. Maybe if we did it somewhat differently, I don't know...

I'm slightly confused by this one - I was always annoyed with new programs being highlighted in Windows and don't really see why we need it in Linux.

Here is my reasoning:

1) You are installing an application because you actually need to use it. Why would you need to use 20-30 apps at once? Especially 20-30 _new_ applications that you're not at all familiar with.

2) You are installing an application because you just want to try it out. Can you reasonably assess 20-30 applications at one?

Is there a good use-case for this feature, or is it a need to be more like Windows?

When I install something using synaptic, it doesn't say in which application sub-menu it will appear (or maybe it does, but I never noticed it). Highlighting would make it easier to find these apps. But I only need the app to be highlighted until I opened it once from the menu. Any longer and it becomes as annoying as it is in windows.
