Preserve Live Session Changes Post-Install
Written by andruk the 19 Mar 08 at 01:04. Global category: Installation. Already implemented
When I install Ubuntu, I load the LiveCD, go through the installer, and while its installing, I start customizing. When I reboot into the installed system, my customizations are largely gone (bluetooth, ~/.mozilla/ folder, no Flash player installed, etc.).

Solution #1: Preserve all changes (Original solution from pre-January 2009 idea)
Written by andruk the 19 Mar 08 at 01:04.
I propose an option that will ask the user (post-install) if they would like to preserve the changes they made to the Live Session to the freshly-installed system (backing up the files on the hard disk, and then replacing them with the files from the Live Session). This would make the complete install process faster, as I could start customizing the LiveCD in parallel with installing it.

Solution #2: Solution 1 + Add/Remove Programs
Written by Basem the 30 Mar 09 at 10:48.
Solution 1 + the ability to uninstall software before installing the OS, thus installing the system with only the user specified apps.

Solution #3: Transfer settings from LiveCD only when specified in Ubiquity
Written by TwistedLincoln the 30 Mar 09 at 15:05.
Same as solution 1, but make it an optional (and not checked by default) setting in Ubiquity. That way users who are playing around in live mode don't accidentally transfer settings to the installed system unintentionally.

Add CD labels
Written by kevinchen22 the 13 Apr 09 at 23:16. Related project: Live CD installer. New
When I downloaded and burned a Ubuntu iso, I wanted a nice-looking CD label to go with it. I searched ubuntu.com and the Internet for labels, but none of them were official.

Solution #1: Make the official labels available for download
Written by kevinchen22 the 13 Apr 09 at 23:16.
After you click "Begin Download" at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download, the page it takes you to should display a link to the labels, which should be in both png and photoshop formats.

Solution #2: Make a different official cool design available
Written by cheesehead the 14 Apr 09 at 12:04.
So users can tell the difference between Shipit CDs and user-burned CDs.

Solution #3: Multiple formats
Written by andruk the 15 Apr 09 at 04:15.
Release the images in multiple formats, like XCF, PSD, PNG, and SVG (if possible). That way people can use whatever they want to use to edit or open/print the logos.

Updatable LiveCD for CD-RWs
Written by andruk the 26 Mar 08 at 04:28. Global category: Installation. New
Users have to update their machine immediately after installing Ubuntu because there are a lot of updated packages. During this time, they can be vulnerable to attacks.

Solution #1: Updatable LiveCD (Original solution from pre-January 2009 idea)
Written by andruk the 26 Mar 08 at 04:28.
It would be nice to have the LiveCD update itself (if it's burned to a CD-RW) from the repos, like Trinity Rescue Kit does. This is probably asking a whole lot, as LiveCDs are fairly complicated.

Another (less elegant) way to do this could be to have the LiveCD check for updates to packages it installs, and download and install those to the hard drive instead of the packages that are on the LiveCD.
