Idea #9999: Firefox insensitive to Flash crash

Written by krs the 18 Jun 08 at 12:52. Category: Internet & Networking. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Firefox currently suffers from the instability of Flash.

Firefox should have a way to manage the instabilities of their plugin. (not only flash)

For example, if you surf on Dailymotion, then after a few video Flash decide to crash, instead of seeing Firefox disappearing without any error message, it should be great to have a nice message window like that :

You'd rather ask for this for EVERY plugins, and it might be an awesome firefox feature.

krs wrote on the 18 Jun 08 at 14:18
Of course, but Flash is the best example to illustrate the feature. That's why I don't speak in a generic way.

Good idea.

AFAIK, Opera already does this.

It should ask for Flash to be reloaded. Like gnome-panel does when an applet crashes.

The beta 10 of FLash don't crash (less more) with pulseaudio (use it's)

is this a kind of bug

Auzy wrote on the 19 Jun 08 at 11:38
Not really. The means of dealing with this was discussed in a previous idea.

Basically it comes down to High availability systems:

1) Having a watchdog to monitor plugins to determine when they are faulty
2) Stop the plugin/repair the plugin/replace content with a stub (blank)

you can do this with ndisplugginwrapper but if it had an option to restart the plugin that would be awesome
