Voted no.
Only add this to a backports repository unless there are security issues I do not know about. Ubuntu freezes at releases. Wine 1.0 is a great milestone, but not an essential update for all users.

-1.
Not like so many things have happened since 0.9.59. And it is easy to use the winehq repo. Not to mention that 1.0 is not without regressions...

There has been feature freeze for the 1.0 release so, so there should be few regressions and it should be more stable than earlier versions.
1.0 is a great and important milestone.

I'm going to say the same thing I did ages ago.. Regressions? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. 1.0 probably has less regressions then 0.9.59
+1

8.04.1 is due for release soon and I think it would be quite acceptable to include wine 1.0 along with Firefox 3.0 which is to be included.

Nobody said put it in the security updates repo. Instead, put it in the normal updates repo. Done!

Actually, Sawjew2 probably has the right approach..
Also, regressions hahaha. If FF3 final had so many regressions over Beta5, wouldn't they just stick to Beta5 instead of final?

auzy do you know what regressions are?
I think wine repos are fine for those that want 1.0 otherwise 9.59 is fine, firefox should be updated tho

Yes Rioting Pacifist. What you are saying is that more problems have been introduced from an alpha version to a final version, then what the final version fixes.
So you are really worried about the 1 or 2 packages which will get broken, over the dozens that have been fixed in the past month (which includes games not working and MS office 2000 not installing, issues with Photoshop CS2). And you prefer to forget about all the programs that are now officially supported and work well. You also forget that fact that software companies can test their products against Wine 1.0 for compliance, and get them working officially with that release too.
This is of course less important to you then the possibility of 2 or 3 broken programs which aren't officially supported anyway?

whats the use of an "idea" to promote single projects? There is a clear policy in Ubuntu on that...

Keep it in backports or perhaps proposed. A version number change does not follow ubuntu's logic, if the version in the repos was 1.0rc1 it would have been different. People can always use wine's repo anyway.

wow, comments' order is screwed.
BTW, A bug fixed after 0.9.59 is a life saver to me in regards to an app I use frequently, I already am using WINE 1.0 and it is great and has fixed a lot of things. But I don't think doing this would be consistent with ubuntu's ways , if there was an exception then any package and his mother would like to enter the repos after a version change, that's the whole point of a new ubuntu version.
Anyway, people have to install WINE anyway, adding winehq's repo doesn't make the installation process much harder.

This idea fails, like many others have already stated. So -1.
There is already an idea promoting the update of packages for compatibility. If you look around "Most popular ideas ever."
Also, Ubuntu doesn't release whole number updates until the next distribution release.
For example, a version 5.2.9.4 of a package could enter the repos if the previous version was 5.2.9.3.
That shows it does not add new features (creating less room for bugs) and only fixes existing issues.

Well, Exsecrabilus unwittingly, you actually agree with me. That wine should be updated..
Why? Wines point releases ARE in fact 0.9.2, 0.9.3, etc. They are all alpha versions leading up to 1.0 which is the grand finale (1.0) is where there is a bit more stabilisation, and where a stable point is maintained. There is no 0.9.5.1, 0.9.5.2. There is only progressing sequences to 1.0
Its similar to gnome. You can stabilise against 2.4.x because no new features are added. For us that version is 1.0
What makes your logic kinda bung though, is that you seem to want Alpha version software.

Auzy 1.0 is slightly more stable than 0.9.5 but there will be no stable branch of wine.
