Description
Gnumeric is a very nice, fast, accurate and reliable spreadsheet tool. It is much faster and of much better quality than OOo Calc. But most people there prefere OOo Calc and it becomes more and more popular because it has Visual Basic support and Gnumeric does not.

I believe the support for Visual Basic should be added to Gnumeric to create the best spreadsheet tool ever made.

I would have probably +1 you if it was "python" or "ruby" or something like that. But adding visual basic to yet another spreadsheet software? Is the harm done to excel and openoffice calc not big enough?

Why do you think, people use Excel and Open Office but do not use Gnumeric? Or do you wish people to learn python (by the way, it's already there if I am not wrong)?

To install python or perl support:

Install the gnumeric-plugins-extra package with synaptic or from the terminal:

sudo aptitude install gnumeric-plugins-extra

Open (or close and reopen) Gnumeric

Choose "Plugins..." from the "Tools" menu

Pick your choices of:

Perl functions
Perl plugin loader
Python functions
Python plugin loader

"Gnumeric is a very nice, fast, accurate and reliable spreadsheet tool."

In my opinion, if you added all that you needed to make Visual Basic work with it -- suddenly that statement would no longer be true.

Oh yeah, some help for after you install Python support:

Why? Excel is nice and fast, but not accurate. But I think it is not beause of Basic support.

Why not Python?

Python is used in so many open-source applications like Gimp, Inkscape, Blender, etc., and why not Gnumeric as well?

What may scare newbies about Python is the PEP8 norm, but i think it's only a cultural academic issue - if people only wanted to have stuff working, why caring about?

Python already embeeded in Gnumeric.
