Description
I just got a Logitech wave keyboard. Some special keys, such as volume adjustment work out of the box. Other keys do not even generate xev events. So to take fully advantage of this keyboard you have to use Windows or MacOSX.
I would be glad if Canonical could find a way to get everything work out of the box :)

Change from USB-port to a PS/2 port and then you can have Keytouch to configure your special buttons. I've read somewhere that USB-linux driver simply can't handle all buttons on a multimedia keyboard. A change to PS/2 through a simple converter makes special buttons possible.

I would honestly check to make sure any new hardware I bought works, but I just got a Logitech webcam from my dad that's a few years old, it doesn't work with Cheese, and works with gstreamer, though not very well, after some tinkering. In any case, I'm sure this thread is bound to be marked In Progress.

Make one more reason not to buy hardware from Microsoft. :)

Logitech is one of the best manufacturers of computer accessories. Canonical should really work hard to make all mainstream Logitech products work out of the box under Ubuntu. So there will be one more reason to persuade people to switch to Linux.

I've been a big logitech fanboy since my windows days. They really do make the best peripherals. Most stuff works pretty good. My Webcam works. I have a zareason ubuntu keyboard which is really a modified logitech keyboard. I use a 2.1 logitech speaker system which I got for arbou $40 but sounds better than some similar systems at 3 times the cost. I have a logitech mouse too and it does work. But their proprietary windows drivers are needed for the extra buttons to do what they're supposed to do. And their new scroll wheel features from the revolution and g9 mice do not work under linux. Its a real shame. Ubuntu geeks are computer geeks. And a lot of computer geeks have logitech mice and peripherals. Better support would be fantastic, but this is really logitech's business not ours. Reaching out an olive branch to them might help though.

I don't trust Logitech anymore. I bought MX Revolution mouse and spent more than 10 hours googling how to get it work on Windows XP. The problem was a more than 1 year old bug, that was present in most product which were supported by SetPoint software.
If something doesn't even work on "main" platform like Windows XP, it would be nearly impossible for Canonical to force Logitech for better support.
I accidentally voted on Yes.
